I had the problem of App Store Twitter Update from an unknown apple ID. This is how I fixed the issue, hope it works for others as well:
1- Try to block the apple ID by giving some garbage password and go to reset apple ID and do the same until you block the account. I have done it already but harmless to check it again
2- Quit and Start MAC Apple Store.
3- From Menu Bar Select Store then View My Account.
4- In the Account Panel, click "RESET" Reset all warnings for buying and downloading.
5- Click DONE to exit.
6- In the Apple Store Categories and search box, type and search for Twitter
7- Select "Twitter" only from the given options and click to install it. A fresh app will dive into your Launch Pad and starts downloading with your own apple ID.
8- The Red Update No. will be removed from App Store icon on Dock.
9- Once app is downloaded and installed, you may keep twitter or you may uninstall it (like other apps) if you don't wish to keep it.
In any case if you wish to uninstal it please be a bit patient until the next update, if you uninstal it immediately, the old problem will return again.
Hope it helps

I've tried this several times and the "bogus" Apple ID is still there. When I get to trying to downlaod the fresh legit copy of Twitter I get an "Unknown error " message from the Apple Store. This is followed by a "We could not complete your request. There was an error in the App Store. Please try again later. (4)" message.
Any other hints, please?

Sorry! Made no difference at all.
Problem's still there in all its glory.
Like all pests maybe if I ignore it it'll go away... may as well 'cos nothing else suggested works.
Over to you Apple and I'm not holding my breath :-(
