Q: i want to unlock my iphone

i have an iphone which is lock to bell canada but they say they dont't unlock their iphones and apple says they won't unlock it without the carrier saying to unlock it, is there anything that could be done?

You could sell the iPhone to someone who could use it with Bell and buy another one.

After reading through this thread it's clear that an iphone is unlock-able by anybody but its carrier, so my question is;

Is it possible to buy a new iphone without a carrier?

I can understand locking someone into a contract if they get a break on the price of the phone.  However, if I pay full price for a phone I'd like to keep my options open to shop around for better carriers if I'm not happy with the first one.  You all seem to be saying Apple doesn't sell unlocked phones, is that true?

Apple sells unlocked phones. Currently the iPhone 5 is not available unlocked, because the entire production run was allocated to carriers around the world. It will be eventually, however. The 4S is available unlocked directly from Apple.

By an interesting quirk Verizon and Sprint iPhone 5's are unlocked for GSM use around the world, but cannot be used anywhere there is a CDMA carrier.

The U.S sells iphone 4s as unlocked.

The iphone 5 in the U.S is not yet available as unlocked.

Thanks.  I think the unlocked 4s phone is the one for me until the 5 is unlocked.  I'm sure the big three carriers are fine, I just don't like being told what to do.

this is very bad that we cant unlock our iphone after contract to go any where we want, i called sprint many times they said they don't do unlock, because of this i have to buy another ihpone on ATT network, if anybody have an idea let me know.

If you don't like it, write to your congressman. There is nothing Apple or anyone else can do about it. The carriers hold the lock and they are the only ones with the legal right to unlock it.

Only Orange Spain can unlock it. You will need to contact them and see if they will.

AT&T has changed the unlocking policy rules so it's only OUT of contract devices are allowed to be unocked
