HT3931 Server admin has hung in Calendar and the forums are full of tales of woe. I don't need it (just updated the OS and got lumbered with it),and it does not appear in Applications.

If Server Admin.app for 10.6 isn't showing the iCal Calendar Server, then it's not configured and not running on your OS X Server 10.6 system. If there's a line for iCal but the ball isn't green, it's configured within Server Admin.app, but is not running. If you do have iCal visible, then shut it off and (if there's a problem with that) ensure it's shut off and try a reboot.
Far and away the most common issue with OS X Server and weird behavior is bad local DNS configuration; ISP DNS and Google DNS aren't sufficient, and the OS X Server box (or something else on the local network) needs to be running DNS services.
