Q: Unable to change colours in iCloud calendar?

Yesterday, October 8, the carefully selected colours for each of my calendars abruptly changed to a new palette on all of my Apple devices (iPad, iPhone, Mac Pro and MacBook).

When I changed the calendar colours back to the ones I selected on the Mac Pro, they reverted back to the new colours within seconds. I tried then to change back to “my colours” on each device seperately and within seconds they reverted to these "new" and unwanted colours.

Suspecting something with iCloud, I logged into my account online and discovered that everything had switched over from the old skeuomorphic version to the new iOS7 icons and colours (I don't log into iCloud very often, it does a pretty good job of synching everything in the background).

I really don't like the new colours iCloud selected for me (pink, purple, peach and red) and I don't know why it didn't pick something similar in the new iOS7 palette that is close to what I had selected and have been using since the me.com days (grey, blue, red and green).

Here is the problem: When I change any of my calendar colours in the iCloud calendar, they immediately default back to new colours, and not the ones I have just selected! I have carefully followed the Apple’s help instructions (“Change a calendar’s name or color”), but it makes no difference, almost instantly the colour reverts back.  For example, I click edit, click on the colour blot for my Work calendar, change my Work calendar to green and it reverts instantly back to an ugly purple. I have tried closing the Calendar app on all my devices – no joy. I have powered down all of my devices, thinking that this might be one of my devices overriding iCloud, but also no joy. Any ideas or suggestions would be really appreciated as I have now hit the frustration stage

Thanks.

I have an IMac running the latest version of Mountain Lion and I started having a similar problem today. When I change the colors of any of my ICloud calendars, they change back after syncing. So, right now, my main calendar's events are showing up in a light blue and I'm unable to make it darker. This problem just started happening to me today.

Same thing for me.  Today I noticed my work calendar had changed from Green to purple (which is the colour of my wifes calendar).

Tried changing it on the iphone first.  But no luck so logged into iCloud and tried to change the colours their.  It works for about 1 second and then changes back from green to purple.

This reminds me of those bad old days when I used to use Microsoft toys and spend hours in forums trying to get things to just work... RIP Mr Jobs you are missed!

I spoke with Apple.  Apparently they are in the process of upgrading the Calendar feature at this moment.  They say that the problems we are facing will be gone within a week, as the upgrade is fully implemented.

Thanks for taking the time to share this, much appreciated. There are now several threads on this issue. Also, I have come across a new bug, my default calendar is supposed to be my work calendar, but as of today, everything defaults to my home calendar. Hopefully, this disappears over the next week.

    Cheers

Thanks Wass.  This has frustrated me for the past hour as I try to figure out what I am doing wrong.

At least now I know I just have to show some patience and just accept that two of my calendars will have the same colour for the next week.

So frustrating...turquoise and pink just don't make things stand out in my calendar! Very confusing and frustrating, makes it hard to keep track of things...it's only colors, but it's messing me up! can't wait for them to fix this...

Eureka!! Discovered a solution for this systemic problem (albeit temporary for some users). Can't take the credit for the fix, though. All kudos goes to Sam Yu.

    He wrote;

"Found a workaround for this issue. I don't think it has to do with the fact that the calendar is named "work". Here's what I did:

    1. exported existing "work" calendar
    2. create a new calendar with a new name, "work 2"
    3. imported calendar to the new calendar
    4. change calendar to the desire color
    5. deleted old "work" calendar
    6. named calendar back to "work"

I closed the calendar app and opened it again. The color stayed to my desired setting. Hope this helps!"

My pleasure!! It's more preferable than resetting every single event /calendar.

Thought I had a fix, but it has reverted after auto refresh . I had, with the Calendar menu visible on the LH side of screen, gone to the iCloud menu and clicked on the word Work. Dialogue box ssaid "Work" Info and have a couple of fields with Work in the top one and a drop-down menu to its right. I simply changed mine back to Green on that drop down menu (my previous choice) and OK'd the change. But it didn't stick. Let's hope the app revamp comes sooner rather than later. It's a pain.

Been there, done that ... to a tee. All great minds think alike, I imagine. That's why I went the other route.

Just a quick update, BTW; My adopted solution is still purring like a kitten. After 3 days, my selected colours HAVEN'T CHANGED!!

Please, don't rely on Apple to resolve this hiccup. You may be waiting a long time, my friend!
