Ah, see that I didn't know. I figured since there was so much information on the beta builds of iOS constatnly released that there wasn't a nondisclosure agreement. That's my bad. And, of course, I know that what's in the beta may not be in the final build and vice versa, but it could give some indication if the feature IS in the beta. Thanks for the heads up though.

Yes, there's lots of leaked information about the betas out there. But, we can't discuss all that leaked info here. Sorry.

    Best of luck.

Here's the solution to your problem:

EVERYONE on this discussion board (especially Meg St._Clair) should send the following message to Apple so that they can recognize how serious it is and fix this problem FAST with the NEXT UPDATE:

RE:  iPhone 5 Text Message Auto-Populate List or Pop-Up Short List (AutoComplete List) can NOT be Deleted

Apple, please fix this problem.  Here’s the problem:  When creating a text message, as you type the name/phone on the “To Line” of the person you are sending the text to, the iphone automatically pops-up a short list to choose from (similar to “AutoComplete” in Internet Explorer) of previous names that you have ever PREVIOUSLY sent a text message to.  This short list is a DIFFERENT list from your “Phone’s Contact Address Book List”.  This Auto-Populate feature stores these names and number in a different place on your iphone and even if you have DELETED the person’s name from your “iphone’s Contact Address Book List” that name still can NEVER be deleted from this “Auto-Populate” pop-up short list.  The ONLY way to remove this data from your iphone is to restore your iphone as a new device in iTunes, NOT from the backup.  However, you will LOSE ALL your contacts and information performing this.  This is not a good fix because after a short while, the SAME problem will happen again.  The fact that DELETED CONTACTS are auto populating and popping up as a short list in both emails and text messages (and can NOT be DELETED) is something that should have been fixed a long time ago!  Please fix this problem with the next update.  Thanks

Why should I? I don't care if the contacts are still there or not. I think it's a very silly thing to worry about. However, it's not for me to dictate what other people chose to fret about.

Nope, it's not fixed in IOS 7. The problem still exists.

This is absurd that Apple can't fix this!!!

Does anybody know if they monitor these forums? I've sent in many emails about this but nobode has ever responded.

reb92, on seeing iambubbaq's post this morning I revisted my ghost entries in SMS/messages...

sadly your initial comment of 'its not fixed' rang true... HOWEVER

I was able to highlight the OTHER entry and select REMOVE FROM PREVIOUS and away it went! never to be seen again

    so kinda fixed!

As a very vocal person about the matter, I am pleased that there is finally a solution. To the right of all the deleted contacts , there is the information icon. When I highlight those contacts, I am albeit to "delete from recent" to remove them. I consider that an acceptable fix and am delighted that it's FINALLY resolved. Still trying to figure out how to close open apps. Double tapping the home button and holding down the app doesn't work in IOS 7. Surely, there's a simple way to close them.

you are going to kick yourself perfectleyME

double tap HOME and then SWIPE the open snapshot of the app upwards! (yeah I felt like a fool too)

Thank you for the information. I'm not certain why you feel like a fool or even why you chose to share that. However, the "too" implies that I should feel like a fool also. I assure you that asking a question would never make me feel like a fool. Nonetheless, thank you again for the information. It's amazing what a simple internet search will answer.

Don't take my post so literal. In no way did I intended to demean that your level of intelligence was to be questioned. As a figure of speech I had felt a fool for spending 10mins poking my sausage size finger at the active app window until I stumbled on how simple it was to swipe them closed. You had obviously tried the same, which lead to you to ask the question. It was not the act of asking a question that was in any way foolish.

glad you figured it out, by whatever means.

I'm glad that this issue was resolved with the launch of ios7. There's already an "i" button beside the number and when you select that, there's an option to delete it from "recents list". Good job!

Apple has fixed this with iOS 7...THANK GOD! It's has been so annoying in my life. Anyhow, the contact is stored in a imaginary "Recents" place.

    FIX:

    1) create a new iMessage. Begin typing the name that brings up the old contacts. (I had one person who changed their number like 7x over the past five years and although I deleted them, they all stored her and would always return when I would go to text them)

    2) klick the "į" next to the contact that you don't want.

    3) scroll down to "Remove from Recents" and BOOM!!! MAGIC!!!

I just did this moments ago to about 15 contacts that appeared to be deleted on both of my macs, iPad, iPhone, and iCloud yet have been populating in the iMessage drop down when I wanted to text someone that had this number at one point in the past. This was an supper annoying issue that I am grateful that pole finally fixed.

    Godspeed friends!

Delete the contact as usual through the contacts.

    Go into the messages.

    Create a new message.

Start typing the name of the contact you just deleted, it will still show up.

There is an i with a circle around it next to the contact.

    Click on the i.

    Hit 'remove from recents'.

This will get rid of it.

Try typing the name again and it will be gone.

    I fixed the problem myself!!!

    1. Try to send a new text message

    ipod 2.jpg

    2. Type the Name of the person (duplicate contact)

    3. When the deleted number shows up as an option, click on the information icon (or letter I). As a reference, it will show up as a contact.

    4. scroll down and delete the number. I Hope this helps
