Q: lost songs

i synced my iphone after updating my software & lost about 200 songs in my library both on my phone & what had already been saved on my computer. Why did this happen? Is there a way to still get them back? I'm out over $200!

iPhone 3GS, iOS 6.1.3

Depending upon what country that you are in, and whether they are still in the store, then you might be able to redownload them via the Purchased link under Quicklinks on the right-hand side of the iTunes store home page on your computer's iTunes. If you aren't in a country where you can re-download music and you don't have them on your backup of your downloads then you can try contacting iTunes Support and see if they will grant you a re-download of them : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ - click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page, then Purchases, Billing & Redemption

im in us. i may have just discovered the problem. its telling me that i have another library but to sync to that one i will erase what i have in this one. Apparently these were purchased under an old apple id that was probobly 5 id's ago & possibly 3 email accounts & if you try too many guesses you just end up wiyh another. Now what do i do? It says im not eligible for free support from apple....grrrrrr.

Do you know the password for that account ? If not then you should be able to get the password for it reset : http://iforgot.apple.com

And do you still have copies of those songs anywhere (e.g. on a backup or on another computer) ? If you do then you can then authorise that old account on your computer's iTunes (via the Store > Authorise This Computer menu option) and add those songs via File > Add To Library. If you have them on another computer then you should be able to copy them over : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527

If you don't have copies of them anywhere then you will need to re-download them, but logging into an account and re-downloading its past purchases may tie that computer (or device if you do it on it) for 90 days : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4627

I do still have all the songs on my other iPhone 3G  but I don't remember which email I had at the time. The computer they were synced to the hard drive crashed so no help there.

If you connect the phone ant try to copy its content over from it then you should be prompted to authorise its account, and if you don't know the password for the account you could try getting it reset : http://iforgot.apple.com
