Q: iMac G4

I still have my iMac G4 that has the swivel screen and the hemispherical base.  I use it for my 5 year old daughter as I have an iMac 27" now.  I need to know if the memory and operation can be brought up to today's speed with an external HD.  I truly love the design of the machine and believe it was the most inovative design up to the lastest iMac (drool).  I would like to keep it if economically feasible.

Your best bet would be to max out the memory. With lots of memory the programs read into memory will stay there even after you quit the program.

An external hd will give you more disk space, but I do not suspect it will make your machine faster.  I have an external hd attached to my iMac g3 600.  The performance is about the same as the internal drive.

Which iMac g4 do you have?

Here is how to find out what version of Mac OS you are running:

Click on the blue apple in the upper left hand of the screen.

    click on this icon

Click on the first line, "About This Mac"

Most of these are numbers & that's what we want.

What version & Processor do you have?
