Q: Find my friends app not working

All of a sudden Find my friends app is not working for me - it is only working when the other person signs in and it finds their location for that minute but once they get out of that app it shows their old location or says location unavailable.  Anyone kow why?

iPhone 5, iOS 6

And Chris - just to make sure, you have the IOS 7?

Yes we both have iOS7. However, I have to stand corrected as I just completed a test and had him force closed Find My Friends, and it showed his location from when it was force closed. This is not the way it used to function. Evidently after we had used the app and not forced it closed, it was updating our location for each other. However, I also found out something interesting during this test. After I had him open it back up again, it was able to locate him a lot faster than it used to. Then I waited about 8-10 minutes and opened FMF again and it showed his location from 2 minutes ago, so this Background App Refresh is having this app actually run in the background which will help deplete battery.

Open find my friends , choose the Me option, then choose account. Make sure the correct devices is chosen. It should say this device. If you have older profiles just swipe to delete them.  It fixed mine, my wife's and our  three kids.

Seriously Apple! Take the time to work out the BUGS before releasing your OS! Apple serivce has been going down the hole for the last few years now!

So what happens now? We just keep spending money on Apple products that have crap customer service?

Frustration!!! I use the Find My Friends App to track my kids after school and its been almost 2 weeks that this "CRAPAPP" has given me more grey hairs.

    Thx Apple

Read my response. After testing the app, you just need to leave it active in the background, and make sure you have the Background App Refresh active in Settings and you will be able to use the app. This would go for the kids as well.

Do you have iPhone 5's and IOS 7 and if so, is everything still working?

I'm not sure how you leave it active in the background?   And what do you consider a forced closing of the app?

This is how our family got it to work, it is working now on all our phones, 4, 4s, 5 and 5s.  We all updated to IOS 7, we all deleted and reinstalled find a friend, we all deleted all our friends and reinvited them. It has been working on all 6 phones for two days now.

You leave it active in the background by only tapping the home button when you are done with it. It then sits in the multitasking tray.

A force closure is by double tapping on the home button to bring up the multitasking tray. From there, you will swipe upwards on the thumbnail of the task you want to close and it flys upward on the screen and is closed, removed from the list.

Jeez louis its an app, calm down, maybe you can put satellite tags on your kids and you can track them that way. Or better yet, why don't you get an Android so we don't have to hear your whinning.

    Everyone, else,

I to have had the issue, tried the uninstall and reinstall, but its not working all the time with local friends, but with ones farther away it works fine. Going to try to delete it and all the friends and see if that works, after re install.

    Hey Chrome262

Why don't you go and play with your childish thoughts in a locked room where folks like you have nothing else to do other than pretend to be grown ups.. Moran...!

LOL thanks louie you made me laugh, lol moran lol.

And I am sorry you feel that my lack of a sense of entitlement makes me seem childish. I, when wanting to keep track of my now 22 year old daughter, just call her, or better yet, text her. Its nice to know, however when my friends or wife are at certain locations, or if they are busy at work or a movie, or in class. but hey if it doen't work there are other methods and programs do have bugs to be worked out, and user input helps. But then again, I could just blame the company that made it and say its a lack of service, especially a company known for its customer satisfaction and product reliability, but sorry, I am being childish.

    Hi Chris -

Wondering how you are doing with your find friends app.   Mine started working out of the blue on 9/27/13 but now it appears it may have a glitch again.   I thought I'd see how you and others are doing with this app since IOS 7.

    All replies welcome!

Everything seems to be working the way that it did before, even with closing the app. I cannot really check right now, my son is in college and is in class, so I cannot test the two different scenarios that we discussed before. I'll check later and post results.
