Time Machine completed a verification of your backups on “MyBookLive”. To improve reliability, Time Machine must create a new backup for you.

as there are no real answers to this long standing issue, I have to assume that backing up over wifi is pointless and a waste of time.

I will go back to directly connecting the back-up device to my imac - at least avoiding 2 complete backups over wireless pa.

Backing up to a third-party NAS with Time Machine is risky, and unacceptably risky if it's your only backup. This is an example of what can happen. I know that the manufacturer says it will work, and that it usually seems to work. Except when it doesn't. Then your only recourse is to the manufacturer (which will blame Apple.)
If you want network backup with Time Machine, use as the destination either an Apple Time Capsule or an external hard drive connected to another Mac or a mini-tower (802.11ac) AirPort base station. Only the 802.11ac base station supports Time Machine, not any previous model.
