First thing to try is to reset your device. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the device restart. See if that fixes your problem.

hey, I've done that, done a phone restore, set up as new phone, re-set all settings, put it in the fridge, give it the hairdryer and still the same (hairdryer worked until it cooled!) I have no apps just a basic phone
can't understand why I have to accept this when I think it's widely accepted now that the OS update caused the malfunction!
