See therein lies my problem.  The MBP has Mountain Lion on it but I need Snow Leopard on the external drive, otherwise I can't install Final Cut Studio 1 on it.  Can't afford the $300 bucks for FCP X right now.

According to Wikipedia's entry on Final Cut Studio, in March 2006, Apple released a Universal Binary version of FCS 1.1.  That means that it does NOT need Rosetta to run.

The only remaining question is will v1.1 operate correctly in Mt. Lion?  You will have to try it to see!
