Q: iPhone 5s 'This cable or accessory is not certified and may not work reliably...' help?

What is happening here?

I keep getting this stupid message even when no charger is plugged in!

I'm using the official charger that came with the iphone 5s box. I have other lightning connectors and thought maybe switching them would fix it but it hasn't.

Is there something wrong with my 5s? Do I need to clean the port on the bottom of the phone? I've only had the 5s for about a week. I am using official apple chargers.

This started happening after my batter drained and I put the phone on charge. Is it a software bug?

Any help would be appreciated.

P.s. The message ONLY appears when it is not on charge. Which is studpily weird.

Have you tried restarting the phone?  Hold the Power and Home button until you see the apple logo.

If it's not from Apple and it's not MFI it won't work since IOS 7.

I bought a car charger from the Apple Store (Griffin PowerJolt SE) and it does not work with the iPhone 5s.

This isn't some cheap Chinese knock-off, this is a known brand sold in their own stores!!

This whole manuever is a shameful money grab by Apple. I hope all these 3rd party companies take Apple to court.

    I agree completely!

Use only original APPLE cables etc. Because I travel a lot and didn't want to carry two cables with me (iPad and iPhone 5), I recently purchased an APPLE Lightning to 30 pin adapter. Get the same "'This cable or accessory is not certified and may not work reliably..." message.

I would go back to the AppleStore and throw a fit - THEY (as in Apple) sold you a cable that doesn't work... period.

My previous response was removed as it had turned into a mini-rant and for that I apologise.

The points (posed in a more reasonable way) made were:

    1. If functionality to detect non-OEM cables was added during the iOS 7 upgrade then shouldn't this have been stipulated in the release notes? Is this a legal issue?
    2. Wouldn't it be a good idea for Apple to recognise customer loyalty by selling adapters to the new lightening sockets at cost - after all the people needing these are previous customers that have exhibited loyalty by buying Apple products and accessories and that have further benefited Apple by upgrading?

My other point was simple too. Could Apple consider giving customers the option to add their own memory to iPads and iPhones via micro-SD in the same way that other manufacturers do. It would mean that Apple only needed to make a single wifi and singular wifi + cell version of each iPad which would streamline production 9thereby increasing profit) and allow purchasers to add memory at a fraction of the cost (£60 for 64Gb on a micro SD compared with £80 for an additioanl 16Gb memory in an iPad)?

It has to be an Apple ploy to get us to use only Apple products.  I have third party cables that work fine in my 5S and keep getting the message in my wife's 5C.  If the cable works fine here and not at all there it isnt the cables fault!  Can you say intentional on Apple's part boys and girls?
