Oct 2, 2013 12:55 PM in response to Esor Asilby west2,My MacBook Pro is brand new, just about 10 days ago. From the beginning its track pad has been extremely jumpy. There hasn't been any moisture to affect my track pad.
Does this mean I have to have the track pad replaced at the Apple Store?

Oct 2, 2013 6:50 PM in response to west2by helldoc,Same problem with MacPro. Only seems to happen in certain types application windows. Definitely happens in a browser window but not in a finder window.

Oct 4, 2013 10:02 AM in response to Esor Asilby tomergold,Having the problem about 3 days now, i have trackpad 2 years, replaced by warrenty to a new one one year ago cause of clicker came out. So now no warrenty and this is SUCK!
I tried everyhing in this post and much more-of course, didn't help. I evev talked to apple, thinking maybe they'll be nice and will tell there premium reseller i bought it from (I'm from israel) to give me a new one cause of this problem, they said it's there decision (Which means that they will not give me a new trackpad 99.9% sure). I'm on imac by the way.
The sad thing is that i am seeing threads about this problem since started looking, the opened from 2011 (!!) to today, which means that's a serious problem and apple does nothing, and more, apple told me on the phone they heard nothing abou this HUGE problem! I was shocked, cause of so many threads in there forums and much more .. So i 99.99% sure i have a useless trackpad (not if the reseller will decide to replace it to me for being nice, which they will not).
This is really annoying and i don't want to pay 69$ for a new trackpad, when it's even same generation.
And, hey apple? How about "Magic" Trackpad 2 with normal clicker & no crazy annying problems?
Im really NOT used to this from apple-this is my second mac, i'm using my third ipad and second ipohne and have an apple keyboard and they are all great products that survive a LOT of time. I have an ipod touch 2g from 2009 that works great.
So, what the heck? What can i do.
I'm on newest 10.8.5, of course.

Oct 6, 2013 10:54 PM in response to Esor Asilby DanMeck,I had the same issue this weekend, so I contacted the Apple Support through Chat. I performed some troubleshooting procedures the guy requested me to do but the problem continued. It was really frustrating. He recommended me to take it to a Genius Bar. I decided to disable temporarily the trackpad and connect an external mouse to be able to work. In any case I continued googling for more info about the issue and found that pressing the four corners of the trackpad worked in some cases so I did it and enabled the trackpad back. It totally solved it. At least it seems so. It worths a try.

Oct 7, 2013 11:27 PM in response to Esor Asilby Darius.M,I had the same issue for a few days, making my life extremely frustrating. One easy trick solved it for me in 5 min. Disk Utility - First Aid - Verify Disk Permissions - Repair Disk Permissions. Now everything works perfectly fine.

Oct 13, 2013 5:31 PM in response to Esor Asilby Sayuri Inami, same problem started this morning after an update but mine is fixed now! I just pressed top two corners of trackpad!!
If you see the trackpad closely, the two front corners are slightly sunk than the top after so many years of use. I believe this causes the distraction. Its worth a try.

Oct 14, 2013 9:38 AM in response to Esor Asilby kevinrt,I had the same sort of issues as others are describing here. Had to use a trackball instead of the trackpad.
With nothing to lose I tried the moisture fix (covered the trackpad with dry (uncooked) rice and left it for a day). When I switched it back on the trackpad was back to behaving normally.
It's still early days yet, only an hour since I switched back on but fingers crossed.

Oct 14, 2013 2:06 PM in response to Esor Asilby Bajaceresa,Forget about getting Apple to help on this matter. I too had the same issue on my Macbook Pro. After seeking online help I discovered that many people had this problem. I followed the advice of one poster who suggested pressing down on the corner of the trackpad to release it in case it had become stuck in place. My trackpad shattered when I did that. No problem 'cause I've got AppleCare right? Wrong. I called the help line and when I explained what happened the rep told me to bring the unit in for repair I explained the problem to the local Genius and advised him that the computer overheated so badly that I didn't normally use the trackpad mouse because it was too hot to the touch. They took the unit but could not reproduce the problem. That's probably because I had shut the computer down and it took me several days to get over to the Apple store by which time the computer was not overheating. They ran diagnostics and next day called me to say that the problem I described was not in their database but that they would replaced the trackpad for $90 because physical damage is not covered by AppleCare warranty. I nearly exploded and explained to them that this problem is well documented on the Apple Support Community site. The computer had physical damage because it overheated and when the trackpad was pressed, it shattered. I elected to decline their offer to pay $90. Same thing happened a few years ago when my MacBook case warped near the DVD player, again, due to overheating (I live in Mexico - it's very hot here in summer). Thank goodness someone had a brain at that store and made sure the repair was done under warranty.

Oct 14, 2013 2:19 PM in response to Esor Asilby Bajaceresa,Beware of pressing too hard on the trackpad. I was having the same problem and like many of you, pressed on the corner of my trackpad to try and solve it. The trackpad shattered and even though I have AppleCare, Apple refused to repair it under warranty, stating that this issue is not in their database (!!!) and that physical damage is not covered by AppleCare. I realized that the problem occured because of overheating - my trackpad was so hot to the touch that I always used an external mouse - so now I shut the computer down every night instead of allowing it to build up heat and can use it with the shattered trackpad - problem solved!

Oct 16, 2013 2:53 AM in response to simalevby Imargelia,Last time I wrote (the 29th of September) my track pad was still behaving in that mysterious “jumping every were but not to the spot I want it to” - way. In my case, I believed after reading all posts here, it could have had something to do with the track pad getting wet. I didn´t actually try the rice-solution instead I kept to the USB-mouse. For more than two weeks I almost didn’t touch the track pad - and I sure kept it away from wet wipes and stuff like that. I it in a fairly dry and warm place - as I live in Sweden it means inside and away from open windows.
So, a few days ago, when I brought the computer to my workplace and, due to the stress of the situation, I forgot to plug the usb-mouse in and started to use the track pad instead. It took a while until I realized that it worked...
...and still does. Haven’t used the usb-mouse since then!
Don't know if this is to any help for you guys out there, but anyway this is my story of How I got rid of the anarchistic way of behaving mouse-trackpad. Hopfully t lasts - if not, I'll let you know!
