Stay with iTunes 11.0.5 for now until they work out some of the bugs.

Sorry.  It's been almost a year now since iTunes 11 was first released. In my opinion, it's still not worthy of "beta" status, and I'm tired of waiting for a cure.

Once you upgrade there is no going back. PPC is the only Mac exception. My guess is because it did not come with the original OS, and so was not so deeply embedded into the heart of the OS.

Perhaps you should go back to the download page and take another look. If you read the title on the browser window, it even says "iTunes 10.7". So does the content title. If you click on the big blue "Download" button, it does indeed download the 10.7 installer. As I indicated in an earlier post, the reference later (that was supposed to be a link) is just screwed up.

Wait awhile while they make some more bug fixes and the early adopters work out some of the work arounds. Usually a couple of weeks is enough, but not this time.

As I indicated earlier, "a couple of weeks" has come and gone... along with another 10 months to boot. If they could fix it (or wanted to), they would have. It never should have been released in this state to begin with. I'm still battling with bugs in Mountain Lion... and that were also there in Lion. Within the next few weeks, I'm going to make the painful transition back to Snow Leopard. I will miss some of the features in Mountain Lion, but will welcome having the stability of Snow Leopard again.

I should probably add that I am right now rebuilding my iTunes library in a fresh install of iTunes 10.7. There are a few tricks to doing this, but it's coming along nicely. My primary library is about 200 GB (with several times that in secondary libraries). So, it's taking a while to get everything back in order. For one thing, I lost over half my cover art. So rather than letting iTunes find it via the menu option "Advanced / Get Album Artwork", I'm manually adding to the albums. This assures that the artwork is attached directly to the files and not buried in the "Album Artwork" folder, where it can become disassociated. I had better things to do today, but it will be worth it to make the UPGRADE to iTunes 10.7.

Are you talking to me? 'cus that's not my name

On the subject of reading go back & see the earlier pages before you second guess me. I have already added my comments on iTunes 11 vs 10.7, I also tried to help those who are unhappy with the upgrade.

The link was in response to people who were hoping to downgrade via thier backups (which isn't necessary, or a very good idea because the iTunes installer adds other 'media frameworks' to the OS IIRC). There are posts that describe all the steps for anyone still interested.

This is taken directly from the installer on that page that you claim is for 10.6.3 PPC…

    iTunes 10.7 requirements

    • Mac computer with an Intel Core processor and 512MB of RAM

    [snip]

    Software:

    • Mac OS X version 10.6.8 or later

Whilst the page does link to an additional 10.6.3 version the big download button is for 10.7 as already stated by others.

Oh and yes the profile is in a mess because Apple recently decided that I have two Apple ID's & the one I have been using for years appears to have the same 'reset email' as my other account which makes it impossible for me to login. I can't fix it because Apple tell me to login with another registered email which they tell me is '[MyAppleID]@mac.com.nomatch'.

So please forgive me if I have done wrong.

I have a funny feeling that what we are seeing is a step in the merging of OS X and iOS. Why else would they remove basic functions? Why else would there be so many bugs in the basic functions, other than a rewrite and simplification? Just a wild a. guess.

What you're seeing is a step toward moving the combined infrastructure toward iCloud. Apple has successfully merged many of the features of both, but I do not believe it is realistic to merge OS X with iOS. I believe that iOS will likely always be a subset of OS X. The features that they removed from iTunes should have have no impact this change... someone just decided to do it all differently. You know Apple... "Think different".

No, Drew... I was not. I was talking to "MacinNW_Brent"... the person to whom the post was directed. Go back to his post and it will become clear.

I did, however, address an earlier post to you, thanking you for the link. I have already downloaded the 10.7 installer and I am well on my way to restoring my rather large library to its previous state. I was actually the "other" in your reference: "the big download button is for 10.7 as already stated by others".

If you missed that post, then...

    THANK YOU!!!!

I understand WebbWebs, the tiny grey on white 'in response to' text is a bit too easy to miss

I'm glad you are on your way to having it back to normal, good luck.

First I was replying to someone else, and I sad nothing about it being a beta in that reply. In the other post I said,  "If this is the case, it shoulc not have gotten to beta testing.", referring to 11.1 and 11.1.1.

And again, I was speaking of iTunes 11.1 and 11.1.1, and 11.1 came out in September. If you read my post, you would see I suggest stopping at iTunes 11.0.5.

And I stand corrected, I had not tried the BIG download button. But it does also have a link for iTunes for PPC.

WebbWebs, I have no problem with the two OS merging, but they don't need to merge for both to use iCloud. That is a matter of coding the web site.

My comment was to point out the serious bugs in iTunes. Like many people having difficulties syncing with their iDevices. Or iOS 7 not having some of the functions it had up until the move to 7.

I'm sure they will add them back and fix the bugs, but I find it real hard to believe some of these issues did not come up in the beta testing.

Reece, I am having several issues with iTunes 11.1.1, but what good will it do to downgrade since I can not downgrade my iPhone back to iOS 6.1.3? And iOS 7 will not sync with less than iTunes 11.1. iTunes 11.0.5 worked great.

My issues with iTunes 11.1.1 are that I can not sync my iPhone 4S or 3GS, and I can not use Overdrive Media Console to transfer audiobooks into iTune any more. I have a workaround for getting the audiobooks into iTunes, but I can't sync the books into my iPhones.

Thanks for the "view menu" -> column browser tip.

Here is the salient points that the filter didn't pick up as important enough to keep. Go ahead delete this too, silly robots.

No Problem, it's just a bit weird to use surnames on web forums the full username makes it clearer (much clearer than grey on white 'in response' text). Use @username to make it clear when replying to multiple people.

I'd suggest the usual 'genuis' steps of reboot everything, perform a factory reset on iOS (backup first).

If it still fails to sync, try sync in another user account. Avoid restoring the backup until you have found a possible reason for the issue. Applecare or a local genius bar may be able to assist too.

Yes, it did. Didn't it. Curious.

I have Restarted, Reset, and Restored to factory default, until I am blue in the face. I have also re-installed iTunes 11.1.1 until the same condition was arrived at.

I have had a case going with Senior AppleCare Advisors since late September, after going to the Genius Bar. We have done Capture Data, which should have been sent to the Engineers. I think this will need an update, so I am trying to be patient, but it is 2weeks and counting.

The 3GS can not be upgraded to iOS 7, so it is still at iOS 6.1.3. It just refuses to work with iTunes 11.1 and 11.1.1. I don't tweek OSs, so that is not the case, but may have been the trigger for the missing

Although, I have heard from someone I very much trust, and she was able to install iOS 7 on her unaltered 3G. I verified with her it was not a typo.

It's the worst ever.  It's slow to respond.  The extra views are pointless.  The search functions are absolutely horrific.  I really disliked it when I first HAD to start using iTunes 11 just so my phone would be up to date.  Now after using it for a few months, I absolutely despise iTunes 11!  I'm a club / mobile DJ and have spent a lot of time sorting / organizing playlists in itunes over the years.  I've had a few gripes with the software during this time, but never anything like this.  I've never taken the time to complain about any software update / performance ever in my life until now.  That's how much I hate using it.

You would think a program with the word "tunes" in it might be a good program to manage a music collection.  And at one point it was.  Then for whatever reason Apple wanted to make it a program for managing phones / apps / tv shows / movies / etc.  With the exception of the iphone, I don't know how good of a job it does managing all that other ****, but I know it ***** for organizing music - which is the only reason I even need it.

It really makes no sense to have to update a music organizing tool (iTunes) that I was perfectly content with because of a phone update.  Can we seperate these things into different programs already?  I just want iTunes to do music - preferably in an intuitive fashion.  That's it!  iTunes used to be that - What happened?

Is there a better Mac alternative for organizing a large music library?  I seriously can't go on with this.  I need either a better program for managing music, or a different phone so that I can revert to an earlier version of iTunes.  I love my iphone, but I'd gladly switch if it meant I could have the old iTunes back.  Would save me a lot of time and frustration each week when it comes time to organize my music.

Did you change the search preference? Filter by "All" rather than "Search Entire Library." It's stupid by default, as with many "features" of iTunes 11, but changing the preference makes the search speed the same as iTunes 10. I find that iTunes 11 responds very quickly, and I have about 30,000 songs in my library.

I'm on a different computer right now, but I'll check that out.  My searches seem unpredictable.  For example - If I want to search for the song "closer" by Nine inch Nails, I would typically type words like "nails" and "closer".  Now in iTunes 10 the song would pop right up in a list alongside any other songs that have the words "Nails" and "closer", which hopefully wouldn't be much and I'd locate my song in about 5 seconds total.  In the current version, I'll type "Nails Closer" and nothing will show up - It'll just be a blank box with the search itunes store option.  but if I type nine inch nails i'll get a long list of every song by nine inch nails, and sure enough closer is in there, but I have to find it amongst 50 other songs.  Like I said I don't have itunes 11 in front of me so I'm going off of memory about the search behavior but I remember running into situations like this a lot.

Or if I click on "show all songs by" nine inch nails, I get the almost unusable "album" view - switch it to "songs" view, and it'll bring me to all nine inch nails songs, but in a list of every other song in my entire library.  So I can't reorganize just the NIN songs by album, title, or any other parameter.  Does this sound like behavior that can be changed in preferences?
