Hello,

I'm frustrated with panic crashes averaging 3 times a week.  Most have a message similar to:

<<<

panic(cpu 7 caller 0x4acd1c): "m_free: freeing an already freed mbuf"@/SourceCache/xnu/xnu-1504.15.3/bsd/kern/uipc_mbuf.c:2888

>>>

The last panic crash is below.  It's different though.

I only had Eclipse 3.7SE and Mail 4.6 running.

I have wiped the boot disk, reinstalled 10.6.8 and all updates are now current.

I ran TechPro 6, but everything checked out  okay.

Any idea what might be happening?

Thank you,

Don

Update, upgrade or uninstall VMFusion, there is the free VirtualBox and it's being updated for 10.6.8 still if you don't want to pay for the slower VMFusion 5.

There is a simple way to transfer the VMFusion vm's to VirtualBox, but the instructions escape me at the moment.

Uninstall Integro, OS X has it's own anti-malware and ClamXav is free and will flag the Windows filth.

Integro is likely the biggest problem your having at the moment you wipeed and resinstalled the problem back on.

Run through this list and check your machine.

I uninstalled Intego, VMWare and Carbonite.

I wiped my System drive clean and reinstalled 10.6.8 and all Apple updates.  Did not install and software that adds ktexts.

I also tried running in Safe Mode.

Still getting kernel panics, but not always the same CPU: panic(cpu 7 caller 0x4acd1c): "m_free: freeing an already freed mbuf"@/SourceCache/xnu/xnu-1504.15.3/bsd/kern/uipc_mbuf.c:2888

I have a 10.6.8 System partition on another drive that has not been updated in quite a while.  I drive is set to not mount when I'm using the primary System drive.  The primary System drive is set to not mount when the older System drive is set as the System drive.  I have been running for 3 days now without a kernel panic crash.  Current versions Intego, VMWare and Carbonite are on this other System drive. I fear that if I update this other System drive to the current Apple updates, then the kernel panic crashes will begin happening again.

There have been tons and tons of kernel panics due to virtualization software lately. VMware and Parallels, in particular. Parallels even made an official release regarding the issue (see below). If you get rid of VMware completely, on all partitions, the panics shouldn't occur.

I also recommend using the Apple Hardware Test to test your RAM. Another viable option is Kelley Computing's Rember. Free and the most extensive memory test I know of.

If it's of any help I had problems with kernel panics with the previous version of Intego Internet Security, and solved the problem by turning off Intego Web Threat Protection, and Intego Anti-phishing. I have had no problems since, even though I have upgraded to Family Protector Premium.
