Using the iExplorer method, no you will not lose anything.  Make sure you backup the phone first just in case you do.

Setting up the phone as-new, it will almost certainly work, but you'll have to re-do everythnig.  Make sure you backup iPhone to iTunes and also right click on it and "transfer all purchases" before you restore it.  This will ensure all apps, music, etc. at least exist in iTunes (though they're generally all in the "cloud" unless it has been removed from the iTunes or App Stores).  Also, tranfer all photos off your camera roll to computer, sync Notes if you don't have them in iCloud, and save anything else you want.  There's no good way to save text messagesm though there are some 3rd party apps that I haven't tried.

This is seriously, seriously irritating. Hey apple, we're not all 12 year old girls listening to the Jonas Brothers. I have no bloody idea what the members of Bear in Heaven or Tame Impala or Wye Oak look like, and I don't effing care. I will not recognize their freaking photo when trying to quickly browse to their music on my iphone.

You know what I will recognize? THE FREAKING ALBUM ART.

How bout bringing that back, or at least making it an option? Because this is extremely annoying. And thanks to the downthread commentor for the solution of changing the artist name in iTunes and adding a space after it - which is fantastic to know, but I'm not about to do that for a couple hundred bands.

I think this has been rectified for most people and I fully get what Apple have done and why they have done it. Within the music app there are different options to search and view your music. Apple have put images of artists under the Artist tab and images of your album art under the Album tab, so ... if you don't recognise the artist by photo (and you struggle to read their name which appears in alphabetical order)' simply click on the Album tab and look for the album art that you so claim to be able to recognise!

Not sure there is much point in kicking those that have tried to help with alternative solutions because you don't want to go through your music and make amendments!

Mine is showing the wrong artist.  I have no clue how to fix it.  It's only happening for one artist (tegan and sara).  I deleted all their music from my phone and reloaded it, same wrong picture showed up..

It's a problem with Apple's iTunes photo database. Had the same problem with 60s band Cream-completely wrong photo. You can at least get album art to show instead by adding a space after the artisit's name for all that artist's tracks in iTunes.

    All-

I bought a new iPhone 5S just synched over my playlist (same as on old phone and ipad) but it does not show the album artists... iPad and older iphone 4 with ios 7.0.4 as well do. What do I need to do to get it to download them? Or do I just need to wait a few days for it to fetch them. :-)

This is what solved it for me, advised by mrsnork.

"Open the Music app and watch all the artist images load in the Artisits tab.  Once it is done, logout of the other Apple ID and login with your regular Apple ID.  Finally, all the artist images will remain.  Those artists that do not have a profile photo with iTunes will still show album art, which is by design.  Hopefully Apple will keep updating that database."

    Thx Aidy06,

This had worked for me in the past but alas not this time. :-) Looks like the Apple Servers on the other end are just down or not responding with image art...

Yup... I've been working with their support over the past few days... Had an iPad with all artists and a new iPhone 5S that would not download... Ultimately I did a restore in both devices now they all fail to load artist pictures from Apple.

I even went and activated iTunes Match... Still no joy on this issue..l it persists!! Ryan, where are you located btw, US, Canada, Europe? Wondering if it's not server issues

So..... This is fixed for me now! I contacted Apple and an engineer "fixed" something on their end then magically all my artist pictures downloaded to my iPad and iPhone!

The Cream problem is that iTunes picks up a pic of a more recent pop duo called Cream, rather than the more commonly known blues rock band called Cream.

At the very least the code could check the album titles but I'd much prefer an option to switch these artist pictures off. They do nothing for me at all apart from obscuring the music.

It's a bad idea, badly implemented and badly tested.
