Q: Bad flickering on HDTV since last update 5.2 (6010.96)
Since my last update about maybe a week or 2 ago I have been experiencing frequent flickering and interruptions on my Apple TV. It seems to occur no matter what I am watching...(ie..movie,menu,screen saver...) I have this connected to a new LG L.E.D.1080p HDTV via HDMI. (MODEL NAME: 47LS4500)
I purchased the AppleTV and LG TV around the end of October 2012 and after the first update I noticed the same problem. The steps taken to resolve that issue included updating the firmware on the LG to its most recent version and verifying that my HDMI cables were working properly. I tested them on different inputs with different devices and found no issues. I configured numerous arrangement with the resolution settings hoping that maybe the 2 devices were not agreeing on a usable output resolution and that made no difference. I have also factory reset the AppleTV and still experience the same issue. Ultimately I found that when I disabled LG's coined "SIMP-LINK" feature the problem went away. With that being said I was able to go almost 2 months not having any issues. Keep in mind the AppleTV is used daily. So it goes without saying that detecting the issue came immediately after the update was installed about 2 weeks ago. Why is this such an issue to maintain the handshake ability via HDMI? How do I get this fixed? I have exhausted all of my avenues for troubleshooting and still have a flickering picture every 1-2 minutes on the TV. Is there a way to uninstall and upgrade on the AppleTV? It seems that every time a new update comes out, more problems arise from it then anything else. This is making me want to switch to the Roku2 HD. Apple really needs to start supporting this product because they are dropping the ball big with this one. I am open to suggestions so if anyone has any ideas, please throw them out there. Thanks.
