Q: Will iOS7 AirDrop ever be compatible with OS X?

Use one iPad yourself.  They can AirDrop stuff to your iPad.  Then you can sync the iPad with your MacBook Air.

Not an ideal simple solution, I know, but it should work.

As to whether AirDrop will ever work between iOS devices and Macs, Apple has not announced any plans, so we'll just have to wait and see.

In the meantime, in addition to Simon's suggestion, perhaps a cloud-based file sharing solution such as Dropbox would be a workable alternative.
