Phone: iPhone 5S 32GB

Software: iOS 7.0.2 (latest)

Recently upgraded to a 5S from a 5.  Since then, I've had some Siri issues.  I have things setup the same as before, but for some reason the 5S/Siri doens't behave.  If I ask Siri to show my contact info, it works great.  If I ask Siri to "show my moms contact info" or "show my wifes contact info" that works great, too.  It pulls up the contact card for those people.

HOWEVER--- when I ask Siri to "send a message to my mom" or "send a message to my wife" ... it says: "To whom should I send your message? I need a name, phone number or email address"

ADDITONALLY--- if I ask Siri to "send a message to FIRST LAST" (where first/last is the name of my mom, wife, brother, etc)... the same "To whom..." response comes back.  As a matter of fact, no matter WHO I say to send a message to, it gives me that error.  However it shows in the top right corner of the Siri screen "Send a message to First Last"--- and it recoginizes me just fine.  It is almost as if it doesn't like to have access to my contacts.  Like Siri and the Contacts are not working together.

Anyone have a clue? HELP!!  I use this a lot when driving--- and it doesn't work at all, even when I say the name OR the relationship.... ugh!!!

PS: Just did a bit more testing... PHONE CALLS work fine... I can say "call FIRST LAST" and it works... I can say "call RELATIONSHIP" and that works too.  It works FINE for phone calls.  But if I try to "send a message to XXX" or "send a text to YYY" -- those NEVER work.  So whatever the issue is has Siri not wanting to help me text/message.  Only call people.

I have Siri problems also.  I think it's my New Orleans' accent.   I would suggest to contact Apple support.

Thank you but my problem is NOT accent related.  Siri's recognition (shown in the top right corner after it processes your command) is always perfect and correct.  Your reply is not of any additional service to me, sorry.

No problem.  Hope you get your issue resolved.

I have this exact same problem. I'm using an iPhone 4s running iOS 7.0.2.

I can say, "Send a text message to FIRSTNAME LASTNAME" or, "Send a text message to FIRSTNAME LASTNAME mobile." The text displayed on the screen shows that Siri has heard me corectly, but I get the same admonishment every time:  "To whom should I send your message? I need a name, phone number or email address?" If I then repeat the last part of my previous sentence by saying, "FIRSTNAME LASTNAME mobile", Siri understands and allows me to compose a message.

Prior to iOS 7, I could tell Siri to send a text message to a contact with only one voice command. This came in handy when I was driving or jogging and wasn't able to type the text message directly. I wish this would be fixed.

I too have exactly the same problem, on ios 7.0.2.

Every time I say "send a text to Firstname Lastname" Siri correctly records the person on screen, but then says "to whom shall I send your message? I need a name..."

    Very frustrating!!!

Tried all the reset-all-settings solutions, nothing works.

It seems Siri suddenly lost her IQ. She can't do many of the commands she once could before the upgrade. I have a brand new iPhone %S and the problems are the same with it. I once could command her to "play podcast "X"" and she would play it. Now the only thing she seems to understnad is the command to play a playlist shuffled.

It'd be nice if someone would publish the correct commands for other things lke playing an audio book contained in the Music App. But I've nver figured that one out. either.

Figured out the issue by accident yesterday with a friend.  It turns out that Siri, for whatever reason, is not that good at speaking English.  Allow me to elaborate....

    If you say:

SEND A MESSAGE TO MY MOM

then Siri knows you want to send a message,

but any text that goes after the word "message" gets lost.....

    If you say

    SEND MY MOM A MESSAGE

then Siri knows you want to send a message

AND Siri knows you want to send it to your Mom

AND Siri knows to ask you "what do you want to say to...."

    If you say

TELL MY MOM HELLO, HOW ARE YOU DOING TODAY?

then Siri knows you want to send a message

AND Siri knows you want to send it to your Mom

AND Siri knows you want the body to be "how are you doing today"

So the solution in this case is to just "talk the way Siri wants you"--- which is sort of Anti-Apple.  Their whole thing was that Siri was supposed to be smart enough to "talk naturally" -- but in this instance, that is not the case.  If you say "send a message XXX" it disregards any text AFTER the word message. That is a big mistake on Apple's part, IMO.

It should be smart enough to know that if you say "tTO XXX" after the word message, it should check your address book.  But it does not.  There are other variations that work (text my wife) (text my mom) and so forth... but Siri, for whatever reason, just does not like the "SEND A MESSAGE" command with any text after it.  So if you say "send a message" remember to wait for Siri to prompt you for more details, because otherwise, you're just wasting your breath.

    Sorry, arijaycomet

When I say, "Tell my wife, hello" Siri tells me there is no wife number for {myname} in my contacts. When I ask "who is my wife" I get her proper contact info.

I can only conclude that Siri us jealous and trying to get between us.

I upgraded my iPhone 5 to 7.0.4 and still having the same issues.

    If anything they are worse.

I tell Siri to call "Karen's mobile" (my wife)

Siri says "I need a name, phone number or email address"

yet "Karen's" name is displayed in the top right corner.

Now she is forgetting who I am!

    I miss iOS 6!  :-(

Many people I talk to feel the same way I do.
