It sounds like your computer may be having an issue with your installation of iTunes as well, so it might be good to go ahead and uninstall your version of iTunes, then reinstall the newest version of iTunes. I have an article that can help you through these steps as well, and it can be found here:

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, uninstalling and reinstalling didnt solve the issue. Since I can connect to the store vis my iPod on the same network and my computer, I'm starting to think that it might be a problem with antivirus/firewall. I'm currently using Avast! Free antivirus and Commodo Firewall. What can I do?

If you haven't been able to connect to the iTunes Store for more than a day (and other customers on our discussion boards aren't experiencing similar issues) a software or Internet service provider (ISP) configuration issue may be blocking your access to the iTunes Store. Find out which ports and servers need to be allowed for iTunes Store access.
- Update iTunes to the latest version.
- If iTunes Store appears empty and only displays the message iTunes Store, follow these steps.
- Try the steps to troubleshoot iTunes Store connectivity in Windows.
- As with all firewalls not manufactured by Apple, you may need to configure Windows Firewall to allow iTunes to access the iTunes Store. Follow these steps for Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7.
- Try disabling any proxies built-in to Wndows. You should avoid proxies because they can cause issues.
- If you're receiving a specific error message, follow these steps.
- If the issue still persists, contact your Internet service provider and confirm that these ports and servers are enabled over your network.
- You can find the hosts file at: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ETC.
- Select the hosts file. There should now be a duplicate of the hosts file named "Copy of hosts" (Windows XP) or "hosts-copy" (Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8).
- Drag the original hosts file to your desktop.
- Right-click the duplicate file and choose Open. You may be prompted to choose the program you want to use to open this file. Double-click Notepad.
- When Notepad opens, choose Edit > Select All.
- Choose Edit > Delete.
- Choose File > Save.
- Close Notepad.
- Right-click the duplicate file, and choose Rename.
- Type "hosts" (without quotation marks) and press Enter.
- Restart your computer and try connecting to the iTunes Store.

I tried the iTunes diagnostics again and the secure link to the store failed. The help button dosent help at all since nothing happended when I clicked it.
For the answers you gave me, I cant seem to find how to checked the ports on the antivirus but I added iTunes to the list of applications that can connect to the internet on the firewall.
I disabled Commodo and activated Windows Firewall to check it that was the problem but no, still couldnt get to the store. I'm thinking that the problem is with Avast! but its hard to troubleshoot since they changed the interface.

I've been having the same difficulty accessing itunes store since some time in the second half of 2013 (running Vista). I read elsewhere a suggestion that the problem was created with Microsoft's .NET Framework 4, so tried the following, which worked.
1. uninstalled all apple products
2. uninstalled all versions of .NET Framework
3. reinstalled iTunes
after which I could access the store.
Problem is that I went ahead and reinstalled .NET v4 on the assumption that some of my other programmes require it, and Windows update has reinstalled some earlier .NET versions too. The net result from all of this is that the store is no longer accessible. I'm not sure what to do next.

For me, uninstalling and reinstalling didnt do anything. What worked was whats in this link:
A .dll file was not where its supposed to be. After copying it to where its says to put it, iTunes worked fine.
