2. When u use zoning, configure the JBOD raid into a seperate zone including the Xserve Metadatacontroller, only the MDC should see this JBOD
3. Mount the JBOD raid on the MDC
4. Copy your files with cvcp, this will use multiple threads to speedup the copying proces over fibrechannel to the JBOD raid

I think everything on the switch is sharing a zone at present, so I'm guessing this would be a little bit painful/dangerous for the pre-existing SAN, but it's a start!
Currently Being ModeratedMay 18, 2006 1:34 PM (in response to Michiel Nouwens)Just my gut - while we do more-than-desired regular maintenance on the san itself, and have accumulated a lot of Xsan knowledge that way, the same cannot be said for our fiber switching... Still, after checking things out on the switch and docs, it seems that the zoning has little/nothing to do with the actual fiber addressing scheme (no changes needed to the individual fiber-attached devices), but sits on top* of all that.
I guess the VLAN thing threw me a bit - when we switched our VLAN setup for networking, it required a ton of client and server-side reconfiguration. This looks* a lot less dangerous, but if anyone has experience zoning an emulex 355, tips would be appreciated.
Thanks! I'm marking this one solved for now, even though I won't be able to get to it until the weekend.
