The following article details a few additional things that may be worth considering in your quest to isolate the culprit of sleepless Macs.
All the best,
Thank you very much for the link.
I read the page, but the page is rather about when the Mac should (or not) sleep. The problem that I am having is that the system crashes/freezes only on closing the lid... (it does not freeze using any other way putting the system in or out of sleep)...
Thank you for using the Apple Support Community. Due to the nature of your issue or question you may find more information by using another one of Apple's support resources - https://getsupport.apple.com/GetproductgroupList.action.
I made a genius bar appointment. Thet could not find any hardware issues. I installed Maverick and hoping that this issue was Lion/ML related and will no reappear on Maverick (so far it has not, fingers crossed...)
I went to Apple and they could not find anything wrong with the machine.
As a final test, I changed all cables connected to the MBP... and the problem has not re-appeared so far (fingers crossed). I am suspecting my MiniDisplayPort to VGA adapter to the culprit!
So, if you are faced with the same problem try replacing adapters/cables... use new, original Apple.
