Okay.  I have been at this all night and have read all previous posts. This is what worked for me:

    1) Go to Settings

    2) Go to iCloud

    3) Go to Find my iPhone

    4) Turn off Find my iPhone

    5) Enter new password associated with new account eventhough you will see your old account.

    6) Find my iphone should turn off

    7) Go to iCloud

    8) Delete Account

    9) Choose "Keep on my iPhone"

    10) Account Deletes

    11) Go to iCloud and add new account.

Hope this helps, as I am sure it was with the rest of you, I had better things to do tonight besides mess with this. I am relieved to have it fixed. Now I am going to bed and plan to sleep better than I would have.

I've tried this so many times, none of my passwords old or new will work, and therefore can't turn off 'find my phone' to delete the account.  I can't set up new applie id using my old email address as it keeps giving me an error message that my email 'contains special characters'.  I'm stuck and have been trying to fix this for two days now.  Anyone have anything else to try?  Please.

I had trouble with this forever .. my school email expired and I had no idea what the password was.  Here is what I tried and it actually worked.

After I tried putting in the wrong password a million times for the old email account that no longer exists, it asked me if i wanted to reset my password.  I selected ok.

It brings you to a screen that asks if you'd like to reset it by email or by security question.  I chose email and put in my new apple ID email on the next screen.

It sent an email to my new address with a link that took me to the 'Manage Apple ID' page.  Here I changed the password for my new apple ID account.  Make sure you put in the apple ID that you want to put on your phone..even though it doesn't match the account you're trying to delete.

I went back to my phone, settings>icloud>delete account.  When it asked for my password to the old icloud account, I put in the new password that I just changed for my new account.  It accepted the password and then prompted me to accept the new terms and conditions.  Finally I was able to put in the new email address and password.

I searched forever for answers decided to try it this way and it was successful.  There may be more steps to follow once the old ID account accepts the new password change.  I also logged into facetime with my new apple ID before I changed any passwords.  I hope this helps.

After trying everything in every thread that was posted, this actually worked!

Thank you, thank you, thank you!

After I changed my password, I updated the info in the Game Centre, Find My Friends, and FaceTime then went into iCloud: choose turn off 'find my phone' and it finally turned off using the new password, even though the old apple id was displayed.  I could then delete the account.

    Thank you!

I had the same problem. I had no more access to my old email address as I dropped the service provider. The ID shown in the iCloud settings on my iPad shows my old email address. Trying all sorts of combinations mentioned in this thread didn't work for me.

I tried the method mentioned in another thread.

I had to go to the Apple ID website at https://appleid.apple.com to Create an Apple ID. I put my old email address as the new ID and filled up the rest of the form.

After about 30mins, I tried to Delete Account under iCloud settings and i was given a message that says that the Apple Terms and Conditions have changed. I was able t click Agree and managed to delete the old ID.

After that, the fields are blank and i was able to put in my current Apple ID and log in to iCloud.

    O_o

    Hello

After having the same problem and reading through the replies, this is what worked for me.

I tried the Facetime solution, but that didn't work.

This is similar to one of the previous posts but just ever so slightly different:

    1) Go to the Find my iPhone app

    2) It should be displaying the old email address/username/account

    3) Change to your new email/account address and enter your new account password

    4) Now go to iCloud settings

    4) Turn off Find my iPhone

    5) Enter new password associated with new account eventhough you will see your old account.

    6) Find my iphone should turn off

    7) Go to iCloud

    8) Delete Account

    9) Choose "Keep on my iPhone"

    10) Account Deletes

    11) Go to iCloud and add new account.

Hope that helps. Such an annoying issue, but very relieved it is sorted now.

    SUCCESS - FINALLY!

When I changed my apple id to my newer email address, I had the same problem on my iPad and iPhone - very frustrating!  The old appleid that was on those devices couldn't be deleted without a password, and since the id didn't exist - I couldn't do anything...  Like one post, I tried recreating the old apple id, but said it was assigned/used still...  So that didn't work, as one post suggested... Maybe I had a "dingleberry" email address still linked to my current/new id...

In short - I changed my apple id back to the original one in iTunes... Then I could log on to my devices with the old id, and delete/signout/etc...  When that was all done, I went back to iTunes, and changed my apple id back to my new account that I want to use going forward.

    What fun!

Here's the problem: The Serial number of the phone is linked to the iCloud account. So...no matter how you reset the phone (soft or hard), and whether you use "restore from backup" or "as a new phone," as soon as the iPhone connects to the network (cellular or wifi), it associates itself with the original iCloud account.  The only way to dis-associate the iPhone from iCloud is to delete the iCloud account, and to do that, you need the password of the iCloud account.  Apple Support "thought" they knew a workaround, but they didn't.  If anyone can devise a solution that does not require the password, I'd be happy to pay them.

Recommend you to create your own thread.

New to this forum.  Why would I create my own thread?

I updated my icloud email address and this really stopped things working.

Managed to fix this by adding my new account via facetime.

I was able to delete my old ICloud account also by going to Turn Off Find my Phone and using my current password with my old email account. I actually had to try it twice for it to work. It then let me delete the ICloud account. Thanks everyone for your help on here.
