Q: itunes 11.1 Freezes when selecting podcasts tab.

Trying to update some stuff on my ipod, but the new itunes 11.1 refuses to let me select my podcast tab to do anything. It freezes thus resulting in my force quitting it to allow me to do something else. It's really annoying. Tried many times but still refuses to allow me to acces my podcasts.

Try resetting your PRAM. I had this happening as well, but it wasn't just iTunes locking up and resetting the PRAM seems to have made a dent in the issue.

This is what I get from the console as soon as select podcasts from the top of the my devices page (summery, apps, tines, music, ect)

    10/19/13 2:43:22 PM[0x0-0x5e05e].com.apple.iTunes[496]

AppleGVA:: Error creating the accelerator 1

    Then it says

10/19/13 2:43:46 PMmDNSResponder[18] 12: Could not write data to client after 10 seconds, 4 replies waiting

so go to the mDNSResponder and it says below:

--- workaround--- you have to let the mDNS responder to quit it search by itself, then you can resync your podcasts, after selecting the podcasts tab on top unplug the ethernet cable and wait, it may take some time for the mDNS responder to figure out there is no network and then it decides to quit it self. Don't force it to quit as you'll be back at square one. Once your done syncing, plug your cable back in.

Be sure to update all your podcasts soley in itunes before messing with your idevice, don't start fiddling with downloading new files while syncing, it won't work. Take your time and be patient.

Thanks for all the suggestings all!

    Exact same problem here.

Unplugging from the network works but an iTunes fix is needed!

I am going to see if some of my old podcasts are the issue.  Maybe itunes get stuck attempting to access feeds that are no longer existing.

    Hi Everyone,

I had the same issue when upgrading my Iphone to IOS7.  I am running iTunes 11.1.3.8 on Windows 7 x64.  I have an enormous collection of podcasts, even manual ones that I have added in as MP3 files and then changed the type to podcast so they appear in podcasts menu.

each time I clicked on the podcast tab in Itunes for my iphone, It would hang....  after reading several posts I tried disconnecting from the internet however this did not work for me as I have my library on a NAS so I need a network connection anyway, pplus it was too messy to keep the NAS and PC connected while not having the internet.

In the end after readding other posts, I just tried being patient & waiting it out and finally it came good, the podcast tab came up & I was able to select the podcasts I wanted synced via iTunes.

attached is a screenshot of the resources monitor of Itunes on my PC, it clearly shows that iTunes is "Not responding" (hung) however the disk I/O and Network I/O were in use..  after awhile iTunes.exe returned to "running" status in the CPU section.

So patience is the key...  All is good

    hope this helps others.

I'm having the same issue.  It's a huge pain.  Windows 7 x64.  Disconnecting/reconnecting the ethernet works but it's super annoying.  Please share if you've figured it out!

I just started having this problem with iTunes 11.1.3 and the internet disconnection workaround worked for me. Thanks!

No progress still my last report.

1- Ugly work around: internet disconnection... Still needed.

2- Old podcasts:  I was suspecting that I had some old podcasts no longer reachable that could be causing a network issue.  Unfortunately  deleting them did not help.

I disabled my internet adapter and was able to select podcasts for my iPod again.  After syncing, I enabled my internet adapter again and can click on the Podcasts selection button again without iTunes hanging.

It's hard to understand why access to the internet would hang iTunes when accessing podcasts on my own computer.  It seems this issue has been popping up for some for a few years and Apple should get on an error trap for this situation.

Upgrading iTunes to 11.1.5 seems to have finally fixed this for me, at least for now.

    Thankfully.

disconnecting internet only temporary fix the problem but it still comes back after a short while.

deleting one of the old and biggest podcast in my list, then resubscribe and limit it to download only the most recent episodes fix it for me. the plus point is, it frees up used space in my HD too.

now i can click on the podcast tab and no spinning wheel

what a preposterous suggestion. It is broken and still not working correctly and it is now months later.

this in response to speculating that iTunes is just "processing your podcasts"
