Is there an app now that implements this feature?

Because of the way iOS works, where third party apps don't have access to a number of private APIs, it's not possible for a third party app to do what you're asking.

Meg is a cat person, like me, so she can't be all that bad...

Aside from that, when you realize that this topic has been around for several years, and has garnered ten pages worth of comments, you understand that iPhone users aren't going to just let it go.

With iOS 7, Apple had a chance to introduce this feature, since it could come as a new setting for the flashlight, for example. A tiny dot on the locked screen would also suffice, as long as you don't have to press one of the physical buttons to actually check if you missed calls and/or texts.

Small wonder some (many) users decide to join the Dark Side of the Force...

Yeah, hard to believe this has was not implemented in iOS 7. An icon for a missed call, an icon for text message, and one for voicemail.

I thought about going back to a Nokia N9, but the iPhone 5 is lightyears ahead in speed.

Maybe I will have to pick up a Jolla phone when it comes out.

I have recently purchased 14 iPhones for my staff and now have emergency calls are being missed because there is not missed call / voice mail reminder tones?  Last night we went through three escalations because the first two initial calls were missed.

How can Apple not think such a basic function such as this is not important ?

Submit your feedback directly to Apple using the appropriate link on the Feedback page:

Goes to show how little Apple wants its mobile products to be used in the enterprise world. Submitting feedback is all well and fine, but this thread has been active for several years, and covers the last three generations of iPhone (at least).

Considering how closely this forum is watched (and more often than you'd think, censored) by Apple, you'd think they'd have all the "feedback" they need by now...

(People, take a screenshot as quickly as you can, because before long, this here post is going to be "deleted by host")

That'll happen at first, when you're not trained to 'check in' with your iPhone every time you return from being out of earshot.  Eventually, your staff will get in the habit of constantly checking their phones, but the potential for missed calls will always be there.  It's a mistake to think you can hold out until Apple adds this feature - look at when this thread was started.  Suggest you exercise your 30-day option ASAP.

I agree: the only way to make them understand you mean business is to poke where it hurts: in the wallet.

Fourteen devices is like the proverbial raindrop falling into the sea for Apple, but I'm sure the retail manager where you bought them will pass the information on to his/her regional manager, and hopefully, it'll reach the ears of those who neglected to add this simple feature to the latest generation of iPhone and/or iOS.

It's part of Apple's strategy of making people addicted to their iPhones. You see everyone fingering their phones all the time, hitting the switch on and off. I play with my phone at restaurants and meetings, friends say it's obnoxious.

    To say the least!

But hey, I do the same, most of the time without noticing it...

The forum is not monitored by Apple nearly as closely as you think. The Hosts remove post that violate the Terms of Use to which we all agreed when we signed up. However, they are not sitting around reading the deluge of posts. The remove posts that are reported to them by users. So, unless your post is reported by someone, it will probably stand, even if it does violate the TOU. They don't read for feedback. It's not part of their remit.

    Best of luck.

I just got an iPhone and I am dumbfounded that this basic phone function is missing from Apple's latest and greatest offering.

Here's the problem: I'm out mowing the lawn and work calls with a critical production issue. When I come in the house, I have no idea anybody has called because I don't happen to look at my phone. This despite having every notification cranked to 11.

When my boss asks why it took so long to respond, are you telling me I seriously have to say "because my phone didn't tell me I missed a call"?

    ARE YOU KIDDING ME?

To all the people who think the notification center is the answer, it ain't. Yes, it notifies you... as long as you pick it up and press the home button. That's not the phone notifiying me, that's me having to ask the phone if anything important happened while I was gone.

Apple really needs to get their head out of their rectum and figure out the iPhone notification system. They've taken something very simple, and made it a confusing mess. How very Microsoft of them...

I doubt it's an oversight, the feature is missing because Apple wants it that way, it's behavior modification to simply and subtly tie users closer to their product.   If you learn you either have to have your phone on you or close to you every minute of the day to avoid missing calls most people will gradually accept that behavior and the product is more integrated into thier lives.

For example one reason I believe Apple has continually refused to offer any real USB/flash card capacity to the Ipad/Iphone is that they are tying to push people to use their icloud service.   The same was true of non-replaceable batteries, after a couple years the battery life is diminished enough most people replace their device, in the past people just purchased a new battery.

Companies put a lot of thought into these types of things, it would be foolish to think Apple is simply dropping the ball.

You might be right, although I suspect it wouldn't be so much behavior modification as corporate arrogance: "we are Apple, and we have a better way of doing things - whether you like it or not!"

Regardless of the reason why, I still maintain that Apple needs to pull their heads out and correct this boneheaded oversight. It's just embarassing.

Yep, this is one of the most glaring features missing from iPhone.  Just like "delete all" for emails or text messages.  Since there's no jailbreak for ios7, you're stuck.
