Q: disc burner software not found

After downloading the newest iTunes my drive won't recognize audio cds or burn any discs. I have looked at numerous articles and done troubleshooting. Even the diagnostics test wouldnt work because the drive wasn't detected. Help!!

In principle iTunes hasn't needed QuickTime since version 10.5, though it certainly wouldn't hurt to try installing it to see if that resolves the problem.

Thanks, good to know!  Not sure I want to uninstall QT on my Win machine to verify, though.

I just viewed this post but did not see a solution.  I just ran into this problem.  Here's what I got from the diagnostics.  Hope someone can help.  The unusual thing is I just put one of my CDs from the drive into my library.

    FWIIW,

I had a similar problem and solution no. 3 at:

    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2308

fixed my problem.  I did not have the old GEAR drivers installed--I looked for them and they weren't there so I did not have to mess with the registry to delete them.

    Here is what I did:

    1) uninstall itunes

    2) download and install the new Gear drivers from the link given in the above Apple document

    3) download a new itunes installer (it WAS a slightly different size from the one 2 weeks ago, although claimed to be the same version, hmmmmm) and installed itunes anew

    4)  everything worked fine

    Good luck.
