Q: Podcasts missing

itunes.png

Everything else is fine - music, books, apps. In the list it shows how many podcasts I have, but when I choose it I get the page above. There are two check boxes, one ticked one not and a cancel button. If I click it iTunes crashes. What's happened to my podcasts? 11.1.1

Actually, under books, where I have my audio books, they only show under the PDF's tab. This is crazy. My friend had the same problem when she went onto Podcasts too. Yet with her, under the image was a 'continue' button. She clicked that and hers came back. As you can see I don't have such a button. Can anyone help?

Just for the record, in case anyone makes an assumption, I have tried to restore things as per Apples knowledge base directions here http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2562

and by following the advice here: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5324634?start=0&tstart=0

At a guess you've enabled a system wide font enlarging scheme which iTunes doesn't account for properly, hence the text that doesn't align with its button. If so try using the normal font size while you get iTunes set up.

I haven't enabled a font enlarging scheme at all. I wouldn't know how to do that anyway. Everything is normal. But even if that were true, it wouldn't affect the podcasts showing up would it?

There is something on that screen you are supposed to acknowledge before the (new) normal view of Podcasts appears. I'll set up a test library when I get home and see if I can tell what keyboard only input will let you proceed.

Display Properties > Appearance > Font Size > Large Fonts was what I was thinking of... Could also be a display accelerator issue.

If you keep hit tab then focus eventually runs across the top of the Podcasts window, highlighting "Unplayed", My Podcasts", "My Stations" and, if enabled, "List". Tap it again and the next controls are:

"Sync podcast subscripts, settings and stations" and

"Automatically download new episodes for your subscriptions"

These are enabled by default. I recommend you press tab, then space, twice to select and then disable each of them, then press tab and enter to action the "Continue" button. You can set things up the way you want in preferences later but make sure you understand the potential drawbacks of enabling sync before you do so.

I'm not sure where 'display properties' is.

Hitting tab seems to have no effect at all. Nothing changes, nothing moves. I only have 'categories', 'podcasts', 'episodes' and 'new' at the top of the window. Hitting tab doesn't move anything.

What makes me think something has become quite corrupted is what appears at the top of my Apps page too:

Click on it to make it bigger.

Sorry, I've only just paid attention to the fact that you have a Mac. In Windows tab moves the focus of keyboard input between controls on the screen. Active controls get highlighted with a small dotted border. Presumably there is an equivalent feature in OS X.

Can you increase your screen resolution? Although the first screen in my test library worked for me the next wants me to go to the iTunes store to look for podcasts. There is some partially displayed e text above it which might show up if there was more real estate to put things on...

I'm sure you're right, but if there is I don't know it.

I can't increase my screen's resolution. What do you make of the text at the top of the Apps page?
