i am experiencing what seems like a very old bug in numbers 09.

when i am looking at a spreadsheet and i want to see it closer and larger, i pulldown to Zoom > In. however, the first couple of times i do this the spreadsheet actually gets /smaller/. so i have to run this routine four or five times instead of twice.

does anyone else experience this and/or is there a way to fix this on my end?

also, is there a way to tell numbers how /much/ to zoom in by? for instance by some larger percentage?

i am always running this routine about two or three times more than i would like to because it does not zoom in enough for my tastes and when i add this to all the other (apparently) fixable but weird and idiosyncratic click-throughs that i have to do for some other reason this starts to add up to carpal tunnel when working for more than an hour or two.

TIA

Command-Shift-> will enlarge in coarse steps. It's the keyboard shortcut for View > Zoom > Zoom In.

You can also use the drop-down menu in the lower left corner of the sheet if you prefer using the mouse.

I have seen this and just live with it.  You can post feedback to Apple using the menu item "Numbers > Provide Numbers Feedback"

    thanks wayne. good information.

do you happen to know when the last time is that apple saw fit to fix bugs such as this in the software? i am on 2009 and if nothing has been done since then it may be time for me to put the time into learning excel again as much as i would hate to have to do this.

the various workarounds right now cause me to get carpal tunnel about two hours into working in the software and it is at this point that i am usually hitting the boards for some help. then by the time i get help and try and implement it my mojo for the day gets sucked out of me and by the time i realize it i am into the next week with no spreadsheet completed.

am i missing something or if this in fact a bug it is something that would be nice to fix...unless of course there is no further 'development' with the software - which in itself would be uber helpful to know so i can make some decisions.

    hi jerrold.

    this sounds promising.

do you happen to know if you have a setting checked that i don't have checked or if perhaps we have different keyboards? i am not finding CTRL + SHIFT to act as a zoom in but this is not a new thing for me with mac keyboards. i am running windows and virtualized windows on the mac so figuring this kind of thing out is SOP over here.

that said, i am not totally sure why this mac shortcut would work for you but not for me.

should i look in Preferences somewhere for something...?

    THANKS

hi wayne. maybe i can just post "please fix the bugs and the lineweight and line color defaults and give me some presets please"?

    hotwheels,

I have attempted in previous posts with you to relay that those of us who answer questions ARE FELLOW USERS.  We have no ability, what-so-ever, to affect and changes with Numbers or any other software Apple sells.  We get no compensation except the gratitude of those we try to assist.  Please, if you have a beef, post to Apple.  There is no point in asking your fellow users what we think regarding the liklihood and Apple do action X-- we have no knowledge of that.

    Best regards,

    Wayne

    HW,

I'm sorry, but I don't seem to be sensitive to "over there". I don't recall where you reside. The Command keys are on both sides of the Space Bar. The Shift key is the one used to change case or to pick the alternate key assignment. So, simultaneously pressing the Shift key, the Command key and the Period key (Right angle bracket when shift is pressed) will get you the next larger zoom setting for your Sheet.

    hmmm. thanks jerrold.

i think you are saying that CMD+SHIFT+the ./> key at the same time should get me zoom in? i mean, CMD and SHIFT and the PERIOD key? if so this is not working as i just get a beep. i have tried CMD + > and SHIFT + > and CMD + SHIFT + > but maybe i can figure this out later at some point.

not sure why it wouldn't work but it is not working for some reason...

    hi wayne.

i am just wondering if numbers has been updated in some moderately significant way since 2009.

if you know it would be great to know if you don't it would be great to get this info from someone else.

    thanks and regards.

Since I can't see your keyboard, all I can suggest is that you look at the View > Zoom menu and see what keyboard menu is indicated there. If the second key is a dual-symbol key, and the symbol indicated in the View menu shortcut notation is the upper one printed on the key cap, add the shift key.

Numbers has had several minor updates but none to address many a problem.  Last major update was in 2012 (v 2.3) there have been minor updates since then.

    HW,

<SHIFT> + '.'  (the period) is the right angle brace ('>')

    so the command:

to zoom in is <command> + '>'  and

    to zoom out is <command> + '<'

in both cases you have to use three keys

What are you pulling down to get zoom?

    does anyone else experience this

No. Menu > View > Zoom > Zoom in does what it says. It zooms in, not out.

I can not reproduce the spreadsheet getting smaller before it gets bigger.

    Ian.

    HW,

My crystal ball is working now and I predict there will be a Numbers update today.  At least that is what Apple Announced at the special event.

I think this is good news.  will be interesting to see what is changed.
