Q: Preferences for Maps in OSX

I don't understand how the new Maps app in OSX Mavericks works. The distances are metric, not U.S. measurements. There is no preference choice in the menu and it cannot find your current location if you are hard wired ethernet. Wi-Fi must be turned on.

Thoughts?

Thanks.

I second this about wifi vs. ethernet in Maps.

My machine sits 4 feet from the router and cable modem. Why would I use wifi?

Well I use WiFi and it has set my location as my next door neighbor and uses that address.  I cannot figure out how or where to change it.  WiFi ain't so hot either.

    • Tip: The scale guide in Maps uses the regional measurement preferences (miles or kilometers) you set in the Advanced section of the Language & Region settings in System Preferences.

I had to switch mine to Metric, then switch back to US.  That fixed it for me.  Good Luck

Thanks jcaustin! That solved the metric problem!

Don't know what to make of the wi-fi vs ethernet issue.

    Thanks again.

It seems a silly mistake to assume everyone is using WiFi. There should be a preference so you can add your 'hard wired' location. Silly Apple. How do they miss this simple stuff?

New iOS-8 Bug Screws Up Units Setting!

Maps on my iPad (iOS 8) will only deliver units in kilometers, no matter how I adjust the settings for Maps or Region/Language.  My iPad region is set to United States and Maps was delivering units in miles until I upgraded the OS to v.8.  Now when I open the settings for Maps, change the units from kilometers to miles, and close the window, IOS-8 immediately changes the setting back to kilometers every time.  I have restarted my iPad twice to no avail.  This is a new bug that appears with iOS-8.
