Q: Can't link text boxes anymore

Just upgraded to the new Pages and can't find a way to link text boxes anymore like is described here:

http://www.macobserver.com/tmo/article/pages-linking-text-boxes

Am I missing something, or is it really not possible anymore?

Yep. I cannot understand this either. Linking text boxes is a major time saver for me when rebranding documents. Why would Apple get rid of this?

Would realy like to know if there is a way to get this feature back.

Update: Just discovered that on a new document you can create two text boxes, group them together using unite under the arrange tab and the text will flow from one to another. But this doesn't seem to work for my existing documents.

That's a long winded way around it. Why not just keep linking text boxes? So much easier and intuative.

Same here. This change or deletion is completely nonsensical. What the ****? I can't find anything addressing it in the Pages help system, either. I use Pages for some pretty lovely newsletters I'm editor for, but if this feature is gone, I will not be able to use it.

What nonsense! I certainly hope this will emerge quickly.

    This is so disappointing.

Sadly the 'workaround' mentioned only involves textboxes on the same page, and it seems once you unite you cannot seperate them again.

    Apple ... why???!!

Came here to post on this, am equally frustrated.  Why on Earth would they do this??  I rely on linked text boxes for the itineraries I create for clients within Pages, and this has made it completely useless to me.  I really don't know what to do at this point but keep using Pages '09...

    Ugh, SO unhappy about this!!!

Yep you are right. Grouping textboxes across pages does not work. So it's no 'workaround' at all is it.

    Sodit!

I think what's becoming apparent is that they are aiming to align the mac version with the ios version. Many items with Pages 4.3 for mac popped up a warning in ios pages when you opened them. Rather than improve / upgrade the ios version up to the mac quality, they seem to be dumbing down all formatting on the mac version to align it with the ios version. This has made Pages 5 more or less unusable for all professional users

Just want to add my voice here to say what a terrible omission this is to the new version of iWork. I went to update an important document and the lack of text box linking has all but ruined the whole layout of my work. A real backward step.

Pages used to be completely adequate for simple page layout projects (unlike Word), but this change means I will have to look at other expensive pro tools elsewhere. Real shame - hopefully they can remedy this in an update as soon as possible.

Yup, have had this problem for years, but I always assumed they would add those missing features to iOS rather than just completely rip them from the desktop versions!!  Totally insane, but clearly the legacy of Jobs isn't dead yet - this sort of disregard for the end-user is right up his alley!!!

Jumping on the bandwagon on this - this is a horrible omission - going to stick with Pages 09 until the problem is solved.  Long term the lack of being able to link boxes may well turn out to be a deal killer with me using Pages.  Hope this feature gets added back soon.

Yup... nonsensical.  It took me four goes to upgrade Pages due to a flaky internet connection, and now I wish I hadn't bothered (Time Machine, maybe?).  I only use Pages for one task, and that task involved a huge number of linked text boxes.  Now everything will take significantly longer to do.

Removing features... never a good idea.

I would suggest we make our voices heard on the review section of the App Store.

I work every month in a newsletter I was dissapointed when opening my documents and neither of them open 100% functional.  I certanly believe that this version for the mac was a downgrade.

I had to restore the older pages from time machine because compared with the new one has a lot of more functionallity.  I didn´t like numbers also.

By the way, I also thought I was going to see more improvements in Pages.... It´s really sad, for example, a heading navigator like Mellel has.

That´s why they gave it free.

I will add my voice to the chorus of frustration (and anger) at Apple for deleting an absolutely necessary feature for any serious page layout work. Linking text boxes from page to page is an absolute must to produce useful documents. Come on, Apple, what gives?

I dare say you will force thousands of Pages users to abandon the program and use some other page layout program if you choose not to restore the ability to link text boxes across multiple pages.
