Q: Keyboard and Mouse Unresponsive - Mavericks

Every few minutes, a lot of times when switching to Safari or Mail, but sometimes just while using them, my keyboard and mouse will become unusable. Mouse won't move or click, keyboard won't work at all. Keyboard is USB, mouse is bluetooth. I removed all non-Apple Safari plugins, no change.

iMac, Mac OS X (10.7.3), Mid-2010 27" i5 12GB

I am also having this issue. I find it happens when switching between all apps.

I rebooted into safe mode and the problem has disappeared, so that makes me think it is a third-party app issue. I'm trying to track it down.

I have a Logitech trackball, could be the same software. Keyboard is a wired MacAlly keyboard (no special software for it).

what's interesting is that when my keyboard and mouse freeze up, i can still control my mac (both mouse and keyboard) with a VNC app on my ipad (Jump Desktop).

Have you tried quitting the Logitech software (you can do it from Activity Monitor)?

I'd give it a try but I'm already restoring to 10.8.5, this issue was infuriating me and Mail was having issues as well.

I have tried uninstalling the app. But it still appears in Activity Monitor. Trying to quit it from Activity Monitor is not working either (it won't go away).

It appears to be working now. I followed post #10's instructions and so far I have gone 30 min without the keyboard or mouse becoming unresponsive.

I'll try installing LCC 3.8 tomorrow and see if that version fixes this issue. All my function key shortcuts aren't working at the moment (launch iTunes, volume +/-, ...) and it would be nice to have those. I'm willing to give those up temporarily to at least have a keyboard and mouse that works.

The following worked for my Logitech Anywhere MX Mouse:

Renamed "/users/YOURUSERNAME/library/preferences/com.Logitech.Control Center.Assignments.registry" to
"/users/YOURUSERNAME/library/preferences/com.Logitech.Control Center.Assignments.registry.backup", then trashed this file.
Uninstalled Logitech Control Center as described in http://logitech-en-amr.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/26976
Installed this version: http://www.logitech.com/en-us/support/anywhere-mouse-mx?section=downloads&bit=&o sid=21

Btw:

Whilst not having a working mouse at hand, Mobile Mouse helped me out quite well. Lets you use iPhone/iPad as a trackpad input device for the Mac..

Will this work if the problem is occurring with Logitech AND Apprle products? Not only does my Logitech keyboard and travel mouse hang, but so does my Wireless Magic Mouse.

It affected my keyboard and mouse and I only have the logitech mouse. I'd say it causes a general disruption in all input devices. It doesn't hurt to try the fix.

I was going to try this solution, but I can find no file called com.Logitech.Control Center.Assignments.registry anywhere on my computer.

Yes, I have LCC installed and I just upgraded to the most recent version minutes ago and I still have the problem.

Thoughts?
