I updated my brand new iMac to Mavericks yesterday AM- since then, I've been having intermittent problems with the keyboard and mouse freezing. The computer remains responsive (can ssh into machine), its just that the input devises are non-functional. This happened 5x yesterday, including once overnight when the computer was resting.  I have a Mac wired keyboard and Mac Trackpad. My Mac Air, which was also updated, seems to be fine.  I've seen a few reports of this happening:  https://discussions.apple.com/message/23489907 https://discussions.apple.com/message/23468227 https://discussions.apple.com/message/23480543  Those issues seems to be related to the use of a Logitech mouse..  Any ideas here? I've disabled bluetooth and started using an old-fashioned wired mouse. Any ideas about how to fix this annoying behavior?

just updated to maverix and what a pain !!!

it seems to me that the mouse/keyboard issue is more when linked using apple software, a slap in the face for them.

mostly when open/close a quicktime window, mail, itunes, the mouse freezes, keyboard is not responsive for 10 to 30 seconds while the rest still works. anything playing on the screen remains active but i have no control and seems totally random too. so if i want to lower the sound or press pause when my phone rigns, i am SOL.

it's not a life threating issue but ennoying like a buzzing mosquito

Looks like I'm having the same problem. Brand new Mac Book Pro freezing trackpad and keyboard at random (not externaly connected but in built keyboard and trackpad)

No clue as to what casues it to happen, though it has only happened on wireless network not ethernet network, not sure if that means anything. Only solution is to hold the power button down and restart. System log just prior to forced shutdown is as follows

I have very same issue here - brand new MBP Retina with 16Gb RAM. I use only Apple wireless mouse and trackpad. No Logitech mouse... Any solution from Apple?

This discussion looks like its a duplicate of https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5481839?start=0&tstart=0

I'm supposed to be taking my macbook to the Genius bar tomorrow..... not sure if that will do anything, we we have already done a harsware reset based on guidance from the apple support team.

yes, you are right, it is a duplicate issue. If you get any help from Genius, please, let us kow...

I found the following steps will unfreeze the trackpad:

    1. Use Command + Space to launch Spotlight

    2. Type "System Preferences" in Spotlight to open the System Preferences program

    3. Inside of the search field in System Preferences, type "mouse"

    4. Press the "Enter" key to oper the mouse preferences

At this point, the trackpad will unfreeze.

If you leave System Preferences open after you've completed the steps above, when the trackpad freezes again, you can use Command + Tab to bring System Preferences to the top of your windows.  Doing so will unfreeze the mouse.

Very annoying, but better than a reboot if you're presenting in front of people.  I hope Apple fixes this soon.

    OK update.

Genius bar found a fault on my Mac with a sensor so it is being replaced. However while waiting for the replacement I installed the latest firmware update from Apple speciffically targetting this propblem and the issue has gone amway.
