The hard drive may be dead, or just its directory is damaged.
The power manager may have broken, or the power cable itself to the brick may be damaged causing the charger to not work properly and the last boot to be on a trickle charge.
Contact a local usergroup to see if anyone still has utilities that old to at least examine the directory and mount the internal hard drive externally. Parallel ATA hard drives that are 2.5" can be mounted in a Firewire case and examined that way even if the power is dead to the computer. A good technician should at least be able to make that test even if you have no power to the computer.
