I just purchased a second hand iMac - I have an existing Music Library on my PC, iPad, and iPod - how do I sync this to my iMac?

iMac (27-inch Mid 2010), OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.5)

    Hi Rob,

Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.

There are a few ways to get your music onto your iMac. This article has some good information and steps that can help with moving your music:

    All the best,

    Hi Jeremy,

Thanks for your response - sorry I didn't reply earlier. In the end I used some third party evaluation software (Tune Aid) to get the bulk of my music over. The rest I have installed from original CDs. I will update my other devices directly from my iMac Library from now on!

BTW - I was impressed with your idea of using Migration Assistant to transfer the bulk of info from my old PC (which includes a rather large Outlook pat file of Aron d 4 Meg). Whilst attempting this I found problems with networking the 2 machines (wireless doesn't work nor does a USB) so I am now attempting Ethernet using a crossover cable?

Unfortunately - I seem t have developed a major problem with my hard drive (see my recent posting) so I will have to deal with this first!

    MAny thanks for your response

    Hi Jeremy,

Not sure if this reply will contain my original thread and sorry to 'pester' you personally but you may recall my original question was how to get music (specifically stored in iTunes) from my old PC to my recently purchased iMac (second hand).

I have since resolved a hard drive issue which was replaced under warranty and have upgraded to OS X Mavericks. I have been trying to copy over my registered iTunes Library on my old windows PC. I have tried all sorts such as Migration Assistant (iTunes Library does not appear to copy), file sharing, external hard disk and iTunes home sharing using my registered Apple id.

I have also fully followed all the info in the Support link you provided in your response on Oct 24th. The only thing that appears on my iMac are the 2 music CDs I purchased from the iTunes store. The bulk of my music was loaded directly in to iTunes on my old PC from CD - this I can't seem to move.

I could use 3rd party software but would prefer to do this 'legitimately'. Any assistance gratefully accepted!

    Kind Regards

    Rob
