Q: Print driver problem under Maverick OS

I guess I was a little too quick to update from Lion to Maverick. There is no print driver for my HP Laserjet 3200 All-in-One . I cannot print any pages anymore , it appears Apple threw in some obscure driver that does not work like the one under Lion OS X. Anyone have a suggestion on how to get the old driver into play since Apps does not recognize it under update.

Is it possible to migrate back to Lion?

Apple doesn't develop printer drivers, the printer developers do.  Considering you haven't done any troubleshooting (at least your post doesn't say you have), have attempted to reset the printing system per Apple's article in:

    support.apple.com/kb/HT1341

I did considerable trouble shooting only to find HP does not provide updates to drivers anymore , especially of this vintage printer. Their link takes you back to ASU for drivers

Did you reset the printer per the Apple article link I provided? If that fails then you may need to use a generic driver from the Gutenberg foundation. A Google search will help you on searching for their link and their support for vintage printers.

No, not using the article. I did delete all printers and try and reinstall my specific laser printer . I know that it would only support print under Lion but now Maverick just supplies some generic driver version 19.8 . The original Lion driver was the familar 'Gutenprint v5.2.3'.

I tried searching Apple ASU for drivers but it comes back as unidentified. No luck with getting the old driver from HP anymore since they refer you back to ASU.

Not sure if your article would do the same as deleting all printers under Sys Pref's and reinstalling the old printer.

At that site , they also have version 5.2.9 as opposed to 5.2.3 but it does not specify HP Laserjet 3200. Is this a generic download for a PCL6 print and I should not worry which one I install?

Guess what , Maverick will not allow the pkg. to be opened since it is an unidentified file. It would need the developer prove to Apple first that it is safe. So, now what can I do??

Finally solved it by acknowledging that it is essentially a PCL6 type printer.. with the USB connected to the HP LaserJet 3200.......went to System Preferences......selected Printer/Scanner......deleted printer that is not working......added the same printer again where it shows up as connected to USB and selected the Generic PCL Laser Printer driver version 1.5.

It works perfectly, the only other thing I did was under printer settings>options>selected duplex since it has that feature.

Hope this helps anyone with a perfectly good HP Laser Printer 3200se. I might not have had this problem if I had originally purchase the 3200m which is Mac designated.

All this after upgrading to Maverick OS. I hope this upgrade is worth it. Not touching my laptop for a while to ensure all works properly. Thanks to RKaufmann for his suggestions.

Looks like many of us are out of luck.  I now have a new paperweight with exrta printing suppies.

"Thank you for your inquiry on current drivers for your Canon product. We are always encouraged to see that our products are still providing reliable service within the operating system for which they were originally designed.

Unfortunately, Mac OS X 10.9 drivers for the SELPHY CP800 are not available. While considering the desire to provide the best possible support for Canon's current products, Canon must make decisions on which products to support when new operating systems are introduced. These decisions are generally based on the age of the product and the number of product estimated to be still in use.

We understand, and sincerely apologize for the frustration you have experienced, but hope that you will understand our rationale.

Since your device is not supported under the current operating system, you are eligible for Canon's Loyalty Program. This option allows you a one-time opportunity to purchase a new or refurbished product that uses Canon’s next generation technology and carries a limited manufacturer’s warranty.  To help you get up and running quickly, we also offer free ground shipping (if the order is completed by 4:00 PM EST). If you would like to take part in this option, please call our Sales Department at (800) OK CANON (800-652-2666) seven days a week, 8am to Midnight.

Please let us know if we can be of any further assistance with your SELPHY CP800. Thank you for choosing Canon.

Update.  I downloaded GutenPrint, installed it and now the Canon printer software sees my SELPHY CP800.  Not sure how or why it workes, but it prints again!

CP800 and SELPHY Photo Print software aren't working again!  Not sure if something changed or updated, but the CP800 is a paperweight again!   It's a sad day when Apple updates makes good equipment obsolete.

I have wasted good money on a printer and extra supplies that isn't deemed" worthy of support.  Good luck Canon selling printers you abandon when the warrenty ends.  I'll be buying HP, Epson or Brother printers from now on.

If you have an Epson WP 4530, I found it wouldn't print so I deleted the printer and reinstalled it and it works now. since updating to Maverick
