Hello.

Is it me or is 3.5 hours pretty low for a year old 13.3" MacBook Pro (mid-2012; (9,2/MD102ll/A))'s battery that has about 81% charged? This has Mac OS X 10.8.5 with all updates.

Thank you in advance.

MacBook Pro, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.5), 13.3" (9,2/MD102ll/A)

It depends on the applications you are using. Also, note that the remaining time is approximated and it will change constantly.

If you are not using applications that consume a lot of battery, open  > About this Mac > More Info > System Report > Power, and copy here what you see under "Charge Information" and "Health Information"

Ah OK. I will check later again. This was right after I booted up MBP and logged in.

Click the Apple menu, then hold the Alt(=option) kex and click the SystemIformation, then on the left side click Power, and post the following info here:

    verything that is in: ChargeInformation,

    and in: HealthInformation.

edit "kex"  is  key  of course....

It's not you, the more you cycle the battery (deplete and then charge up) the quicker it loses the ability to maintain a full charge. But you need to do it occassionally as that how it calibrates itself. Apple recommends once a month, I don't do it at all and allow accidents or the rare times on battery to do it for me.

See mine here on Snow Leopard and how low the cycles are for a near three year old machine.

Also I believe Mountain Lion had a lot more bloatware added due to the unlimited RAM capability of 64bit processors so Apple naturally needs to get us to buy new machines, but didn't realize the toll it's taking on the battery life as many complained it dropped considerably when upgrading to the Lions.

The next OSX version Mavericks (10.9) is supposed to be more power conservative, same with the newer processors.

If your cycle count is high or by option/alt key clicking on the battery icon says to service, then take it into Apple for a (paid) new battery replacement and this time use it mainly on power all the time.

I checked this morning while surfing in Firefox v24, and downloading and installing this week's Apple's updates for 10.8.5. MBP had about 53% and over three/3 hours of battery juice left/remaining:

Your battery is OK. The number of cycles is low.

    Maybe there is something else...
