Oct 24, 2013 1:28 PM in response to goaliefightby Alepherian,Same thing here, same machine. Didn't notice it until I used Preview to print a PDF, because I run most of my windows full. After noting it in Preview, I checked a few other apps (dragged the screen smaller), and saw it again. I agree, it may be a refresh issue, and a restart may help, but I haven't had time to do that...

Oct 24, 2013 7:46 PM in response to goaliefightby kevincennis,Same thing here, but with a 2012 15" MBP with retina display.
I've also noticed that this only happens when my pre-Thunderbolt 27" Cinema Display is connected. To clarify... this happens on both the Cinema Display and the MBP's display, but only when the Cinema Display is connected. Otherwise, no issues at all on the Macbook.
Tried a completely clean reinstall of Mavericks, and it's still happening.
I haven't tested with another Cinema Display yet to rule that out, but I'll update once I do.

Oct 24, 2013 8:23 PM in response to goaliefightby wild-bulldog,I noticed this too directly after upgrade. It only lasted about a day. Then everything was fine. I think there's a lot going on in the background for several hours after the upgrade. Once the system optimizes itself, it runs well, with no artifacts.

Oct 25, 2013 9:02 AM in response to goaliefightby kevincennis,Just to follow up on my earlier post...
It turns out that this only occurs when the OS is using my NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M instead of the built-in Intel graphics. The Cinema Display really has nothing to do with it, other than the fact that it seems to force my computer into using the NVIDIA graphics.
So if I disable "Automiatic graphics switching", I see the same artifacts on the MBP's display even when the Cinema Display is not connected. That said, the glitches do seem to be worse on the Cinema Display than they are on the MBP's display when both are connected. Here's a screenshot of what I'm seeing:

You can see some white-ish artifacts below my Chrome window, and a big transparent block in my Terminal.

Oct 25, 2013 9:54 AM in response to kevincennisby kevincennis,Also, for what it's worth, I ran the full hour-long diagnostics test and it said there were no hardware problems, which makes sense since I only started seeing this issue after the upgrade to Mavericks.

Oct 25, 2013 11:34 AM in response to goaliefightby CherryTomato,Since up-grading to Maverick I've been having the same problem, off and on, on my 15" mid 2010 MacBook Pro. The artifacts have now gone away after unchecking and re-checking "Automatic grapics switching" in the "Energy Saver" System Preferences.

Oct 25, 2013 12:37 PM in response to goaliefightby David_N,Yeah I also get the same corrupt display artifacts, they also have only appeared since the Mavericks update.
I've also got the same MacBook Pro model (15-inch, Mid 2010, Processor 2.53 GHz Intel Core i5, Memory 4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3, Graphics Intel HD Graphics 288 MB).
It's definately a software issue. The temporary fix that corrects my display is the > System Prefs > Energy Saver > Untick/re-tick "Automatic graphics switching". It instantly corrects the display. It's a pain in the *** but better than a reboot.
Hopefully an update fix will be along soon.

Oct 27, 2013 6:17 PM in response to David_Nby Michael P. Mchugh,I'm seeing similar artifcats. The quick fix I found for when it happenes is to toggle in and out of Mission Control. So far that's cleared the artifacts everytime.

Oct 29, 2013 2:27 PM in response to goaliefightby Atv',Same problem here. Artifacts appear mostly in window shadows and dock background. Turning Automatic Graphics Switching off and on again fixes the issue… until it reappears.
Mid-2010 15" MacBook Pro w/ high-res display. The problem appeared with the Mavericks upgrade.

Oct 29, 2013 4:08 PM in response to goaliefightby Sars3488,Hello ive had a similar problem except my screen blackedout. I have a 2007 macbook pro 17 inch a1229 model I believe. I installed mavericks... everything ran perfectly fine until my laptop went to sleep so I thought it was normal. I went to go turn my laptop on... all I got was a black screen. I can see things moving but the diaplay is dark and I plugged it to an external display and that works fine. I wonder if irs a hardware or software issuesm I hope someone can figure out the solution for this... I may retry installing the older OS to see if it works... or.... thanks guys.

Oct 30, 2013 12:52 PM in response to goaliefightby thetaworks,For what it's worth, I've got the same display artifacts on my Mac Pro 2.8 Quad core since upgrading to Mavericks. I thought it was only in Logic X but since I spend 99% of my time in that app, I haven't been able to tell if it's universal but I know it started after installing 10.9.
