Q: Set snooze duration for Mountain Lion notifications

I have just upgraded to Mountain Lion and absolutely love it. My computer is faster and everything works more fluidly.

One change I don't particularly like is that I cannot set the length of time with which my notifications "snooze".

In the past, I'd get a reminder and I'd be able to specify whether I would be reminded in the next 5 mins to 2 weeks. Now the only option is 15 minutes.

Does anyone know how to tell Notification Center how long I want my reminders to snooze??

Thanks.

It would be REALLY nice if Apple had a way to escalate issues like this. I have yet to see Apple take steps to resolve even a single issue reported in their forums.

And the previous poster is right about these forums - they do have some significant issues with functionality here. Especially when you get directed away from the thread you were on after logging on. That's some pretty basic functionality there, guys!

Filing a bug at bugreport.apple.com will ensure the engineers see it.  The forums are user-to-user forums FWIW.

I've seen many issues that were reported in the forums be addressed in software updates.

what about the forums themselves? as many points as you have, must make you want to pull your hair out using this thing.

The forums aren't perfect.  I really don't like that the darn box you type in doesn't support autocorrect; it's like the only software on the planet that doesn't do it.

That said, Apple has many different forums (these discussion forums, the developer forums, etc.,) and it's possible (lo, probable) there are reasons this isn't using some other software that we're not privy to.

not sure what you mean in the second paragraph but i would personally replace "aren't perfect" with "far from perfect" in your first statement. the auto correct i would say is annoying but the constantly logging out and redirecting or thread pages borders on being unusable.

Yeah, I started to complain about the spell check issue myself, but I figured I'd done enough complaining for the day. lol

The ironic thing is that Apple pioneered the feature of automatic spell check in browser text boxes, yet they defeat it on their own forum!

Count me among those also displeased with the lack of a real snooze feature.  Gosh, iCal used to drive me up the wall because it didn't give you a choice beyond 2 hours... but Calendars are only 15 minutes!  This is utterly ridiculous.

    iOS lacks a snooze completely.

    Wake up, Apple, stop snoozing!

And, yes, I've filed a complaint, a suggestion, a comment, etc. over the years for Apple on this--and to no avail.  Doesn't anyone at Apple keep their calendards on Macs and iPhones?

I am among the many loyal mac fans who finally jumped to BusyCal.  LOVE IT.  Completely satisfied.

Seriously, that's the most baffling. Surely the rank and file at Apple that live by their calendars CAN'T be happy with the (lack of) functionality.

Wouldn't it be funny if they are all using Outlook? ROLF!

I've been using BusyCal since Leopard, it has always been a better choice than iCal or Calendar. Good choice.

Me too. Why Apple would not have a feature to set the duration time of Snooze is baffling.  I was using a little app called Due but I like my Reminders on iMac, iPad and iPhone and yhou need the Due app for all 3. And I hate having another 3rd party app when ML already has it.

I know people who will be happy with Mavericks :-) It seems that Apple has put the functionnality back, the feedbacks worked !

Set snooze time for events and reminders

When a Calendar notification appears for an upcoming event, you can choose how long to snooze it by clicking and holding the Snooze button on the notification. You can also snooze reminders from a notification.

I haven't used Mavericks yet but if I have to use the mouse to snooze the alerts then I may stay with BusyCal. If I'm in the middle of typing and a BusyCal alert goes off I can just enter a time in minutes, hours, or days and press return to snooze without lifting my hands from the keyboard. That works better for me. I'll be interested to see how Mavericks works but I won't be upgrading for that feature. I gave up on Apple for that feature long ago.

    pidj,

I installed Mavericks on Tuesday and did not notice this feature. Yea! Holding the mouse down on Snooze is not an effort and the selection of snooze times is great. Thanks very much for brining this to our attention.

    Hi Vic,

My pleasure :-) In fact I am still on Snow Leopard (MBP early 2008 17", Core 2 Duo), because I was not convinced by Lion and ML. And one very important feature is the ability to choose the snooze duration (I use it all the time), so I was first searching the net to ensure that I would not loose it ;-) Then I found this topic, then I found the Apple page presenting the features of Mavericks, so I thought it would be useful to you...

By the way, if someone still has an old early-2008 MBP Core 2 Duo and has put Mavericks on it, I would be interested to know how performances are compared to Snow Leopard and if it stays fast !
