when i right click a file or folder, there is an option at the bottom to report to Intego or add to VirusBarrier trusted files. i do not have these programs on my computer. is there a way to remove that?

You must have had VirusBarrier installed at some point, and probably did not remove it properly. Apps like this can't just be dragged to the trash, they must be uninstalled.
VirusBarrier's uninstaller is part of the installer. I would assume you no longer have the installer, so you will need to re-download it. For more info, see:

The installer/uninstaller might not yet work on Mavericks and may require reinstallling, then uninstalling to catch all the files.
I suggest you contact them for exact locations of their files and delete manually as it's certainly not in OS X as it was upgraded, so it's parts are elsewhere and should be rather easy to get the remains using the free EasyFind.
