Q: Apogee Duet (1) not working on Mavericks

I had been on Snow Leopard and Duet worked fine. Upgraded to Mavericks, now it does not.

I plug it in initially (after reboot) and sound comes through the Duet. If I touch any volume control, the sound cuts out. In Maestro, the controls are all very finnecky, can't select any options. If I unplug and replug, still no sound comes through. Assuming it's a problem with Maestro compatability, but I've heard that Mavericks isn't really playing nicely with other non-apple hardware either. Suggestions?

MacBook Pro, OS X Mavericks (10.9)

Have you checked with the Apogee folks?  Perhaps they have updated drivers?

    Hello,

I now use my apogee duet firewire (plug with the thunderbolt display port) with my new imac 27 and  Mavericks.

When I listen to music with itunes, I hear, randomly, sounds, crackles, and hiss. Everything works fine for a few minutes then again these sounds, then it works again ...

When I record a guitar or a voice via GarageBand with a microphone (Rode NT2000), I have too, randomly, the noise that occur

I never had a problem on my previous iMac (with Snow Leopard). I tried to plug again the Duet on it and all is going fine.

I tried to plug a Line 6 UX2 on the imac 27 : i don't have noises but the sound often cuts for a very short time (less than a second) .

Do you think that an updated firmware of the Duet (or an update of Mavericks) solve this problem?

Thank you for your reply (and sorry for my english...)

I am now on Mavericks and upgraded to the newest Apogee Maestro. It mostly works fine, but I did just get that same buzzy phasey sound Dav3038 posted on soundcloud. I had a CD in the optical that was playing in itunes. I unplugged and replugged the Duet and it went away. I'll just hope it doesn't get more persistent.

So to answer your question, there seem to be some bugs that may or may not be addressed in the next round of updates.

I am also having the same problem with my Duet FireWire on Mavericks.  I have a new 27" iMac 2013.  It was working fine on Mountain Lion, but now it is cutting out and distoring the same as it is for you folks.

Please submit feedback through support.apple.com and on Apogee's website so that they know there is a problem that needs to be fixed.

This is a huge bummer and I hope that there will be an update to resolve this issue.

    Good luck!

I see there is a big problem with Duet and Mavericks.

I wrote to Apogee (with the link to hear the sound) and I'm going to do the same with Apple.

    Thanks for your reply

    Dav3038,

I noticed that we both have the new iMac as well.  Do you have the fusion drive?  I've been doing more research and it appears that this problem is happening to a lot of new (2013) iMac owners with fusion drives.  Those that did not get fusion drives don't appear to be having problems.  It may or May not be related, but either way, I hope that a fix will come soon.  Thank you for contacting both companies.  They can't fix the problem if they don't know it exists.

Guys see my thread - https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5493304

For those of you who are using Apogee Duet (Firewire or USB) and just UPDATED to Maverics - DONT INSTALL NEW APOGEE DRIVERS!

The reason is - once you install new driver, software volume control keys (on your keyboard) wont work! You will have to use DUET's knob which is not always confortable.

There is no fix for this yet and maybe wont be, because of Apogee "great" costumer support - (such problems with DUET first appeared in Lion)

If your drivers from Mountain Lion (or older) works fine, dont update it or reinstall it. You will be unable to install previous version in Mavericks.

If you're the one who installed fresh copy of Mavericks from USB Flash, i dont think there is a way to fix the problem. One thing that i didnt try was using Pacifist to force replace driver files.

    Hope this message was helpful

Seems like this problem appears not only on Duet, but on al Apogee products.. =(

    Hi,

even without new apogee drivers, it doesn't work. The Fusion drive system seems to be the problem. Some people reinstall Mavericks, Audio files & applications on external hard-drive (SSD ou not) and fix the issue.

If you don't install Apogee drivers, how can you select microphone gain level, instrument gain level, or 48V alim ?

    ok, sorry...

Do you have a imac with fusion drive system ?

FD seems to be the most important problem...
