Q: Can't Sign Into iMessage

Since upgrading to ios7 on my iPad4 I cannot sign in to imessage (or facetime either, not that I use it!) I keep getting the following message: "imessage activation could not sign in please check your network connection and try again" I have done everything short of doing a factory reset. I've done some searching here and followed links/instructions in other posts relating to imessage problems but nothing helps.  What can I do??   (Everything works fine on my iPhone 4S)

iPad, iOS 7

Here is the down and dirty.  Just had a customer come in with the same problem.  iMessage worked on iphone but would fail connection on the iPad. I was able to fix by doing the following...takes only couple minutes

    Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings.

Note: This will not erase any of your saved information. I have been able to fix a majority of all problems using this method.

Hope this helps the rest of you.

There is a way simpler solution tha so far has worked for me and many people stucked even after "reset network settings" or full restore.

I have an iPhone 4 with iOS 7.0.3 and I went through those steps:

    1. Go to "Settings">Scroll down to "iTunes Store & App Store">Logout from the account
    2. Turn off your device, wait 1 minute or 2 then turn your device back on
    3. Return to "Settings">Scroll down to "iTunes Store & App Store">Login (can take up to a minute)
    4. And voilà! iMessage and FaceTime are back in business!

Note: once again, it works without any need for a restoration and/or reset network settings and/or Erase All Content and Settings.

This fixes as well all the problems in Google+/Facebook/WhatsApp/etc. that require you to "Connect to iTunes to activate push notifications".

Does this erase everything on your device.? I cannot sign I to iMessage or FaceTime, but I don't want to delete all of my pictures & apps, etc.

I have an iPhone 4, and iMessage wasn't working (like the people above).  I tried several of the solutions above, but didn't yet try an erase and restore.  I followed Larryfilm's advice above and it did work.  So I signed out of iTunes (in settings), powered the phone down, waited a few minutes, turned my phone on then logged into iTunes (in the settings).  I could then go into settings and turn on iMessage and FaceTime and both of them could be logged in and connected fine.

It's nice when something works.  Thanks, Larryfilm!!

Tried this several times and still no luck.  Any chance Apple will come up with a fix anytime soon?  This is frustrating to say the least.

Update:  I had been overseas and had failed to set my clock to "automatically adjust" and had also turned off my location device to cancel roaming.  Once that was re-programmed, I followed Larryfilm's instructions and Facetime works perfectly.

    Many thanks!

Larryfilm's answer worked for me too.

But I cannot figure out how to award him 10 points.

    Thank you.

What fixed it for me was signing in with an alternative account, I have one for me and one for my wife. Hers was not working. I put mine in and it took me in to choose the email addresses to associate with the iPad and iMessage/FT. Once it got me in there I backed out and signed in with hers and it worked. Hope that helps some of you. I realize some people don't have two accounts. I remember back with MobileMe there was a fix you had to do occasionally to "reset" that service that is similar to this. I would suggest if you don't have a second one to try just try a different email and bogus password to attempt this reset I speak of. It is of course going to deny you login but it might just reset it like I'm talking about.  It's worth a shot if you don't have a second legitimate account to do what I initially suggested.

Solution to can't sign in to IMessage!

Go to Settings; then General; then Date & Time; select Set Automatically.

This should solve your problem. I'm guessing since iMessage is instant everyone time has to be set according to IOS system.

    Hope this helps!

I went through the hassle of changing my Apple ID and password and then changing them back. I tried signing back in under iMessages and it worked like a charm. Kind of a pain to have to confirm updated email addresses/passwords, but it took a fraction of the time it would take to restore from backup.

This worked (Larryfilm)! Had to do two times. Maybe I didn't turn off long enough the first time.

    Thanks
