What OS were you previously running?

    When did you upgrade?

Maverick's like Snow Leopard moves files around a bit. Performance at first may be a little erratic, but should improve at the OS gets comfortable.

i was running Montain Lion with the very last update, i did a fresh install of Mavericks on October 22 from USB drive and on October 23 i used recovery partition to do another fresh install directly from the internet.

The system is running slow, apps take longer to open, animations are choppy, for instance opening Lauchpad its not smooth like before, opening Disk utility it breaks, changing between tabs on Safari it takes like 2 seconds.

Everything is messed up, i think this is somekind of hardware incompatibility, as i mentioned on another topic this Macbook Pro model had some serious issues before and they got worse with the arrival of OS X Lion, he had a free Logic board replacement due to graphical issues. I believe history is repeating itself.

    Hi joaomalveiro

The aftermarket SSD complicates matters, since its firmware may require an update for Mavericks compatibility. All the ones I use required firmware updates, but they are not Samsung SSDs like yours.

Is it possible for you to reinstall your MacBook Pro's original hard disk? If you still have it, that would be an excellent opportunity for you to compare performance between the two.

    Hey Joao,

Have you tried a hardware test to make sure everything checks out?  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1509

I can't open hardware test, i boot holding 'D' it takes a while but in the end it goes to the login screen, i tried 'Option' + 'D' the AHT appears but late it says that my machine is not supported.

You need to use the original grey Applications Install DVD that shipped with your Mac to run Apple Hardware Test. There is no other AHT option for your MacBookPro6,2.

With that disc inserted in the optical drive, start your Mac while holding the d key.

The problem you describe is almost certainly hardware - related. Check with your aftermarket SSD's manufacturer for the possibility of a firmware update, install a hard disk known to work, or make a Genius Bar appointment. Apple Hardware Test performs cursory tests that may not be sufficient to diagnose what's wrong.

My SSD is Samsung 830 (MZ-7PC254N) with CXM03B1Q firmware.

Thanks. That was well before Mavericks was released to developers, in fact it was well before Mountain Lion, and the only firmware updates appear to be for Windows.

Hardware modifications complicate troubleshooting. The only SSDs I have used and can recommend are sold by OWC / MacSales.

everything was running great with Montain Lion, it was even faster than when running Snow Leopard, i just updated to Mavericks because of this new features that "increase" performace and battery life.

I understand. If your SSD is not compatible with Mavericks, I suggest you replace it with one that is.

About that graphics glitches i mentioned before (http://oi40.tinypic.com/27zdb2x.jpg) i found out that it only occurs when automatically switches back to Integrated Intel HD Graphics atfer an intensive use of my dedicated graphics card. Forcing it to work with NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M fix it. I used gfxCardStatus v2.3 to manually control what card MBP should use.

This must be some bug from Mavericks, nothing of this ever happened using Montain Lion, thats why i suspect that all this issues with Mavericks are programmers fault. Not all Macs have this automatically graphics switch. I hope an update fix all this issues so we can keep using Mavericks.
