Q: Mavericks - Dock not showing on all screens?

One of the marquee features of OS X 10.9 is that the dock is now present on all screens ( http://www.apple.com/osx/whats-new/#multiple-displays ).

That doesn't seem to be the case for me.  I have a mid-2011 27" iMac with two external monitors; the dock only shows on what was designated as the main monitor under OS X 10.8, the center one.  The other two displays don't ever show the dock, even if that's the active monitor.

Doing a "killall Dock" in Terminal doesn't fix the issue and neither does restarting the computer.

Anyone experiencing something similar or have a solution?

If you are using an Apple Magic Mouse this is rather easy.

First, click the desktop or any window on the display where you want the dock to move to. This action will make the menu bar on that display go active.

Then, place your finger on the mouse and move the cursor to the bottom of the screen. The dock will then pop up.

But what about if the Dock is not at the botom.  I have mine on the left as height is more important on a MBP 13" than width.  When I have an external screen the Dock will not appear when in the side setting.  I have changed the screen positions so that they are vertically aligned (ie so that trying to get to the Dock on the secondary screen is not in the screens' transition zone) and the Dock just will not migrate to the extrenal display.  This only seems to work when the Dock is at the bottom.

I find this very frustrating as it was one of the reasons for changing.  I don't much like the flattened graphics - I think we had a much nicer looking OS in Mountain Lion - personal preference.

On the side, the Dock will only appear on one display, unless someone else has found different.

The trick is to move the cursor past the dock on the bottom and hold it without lifting your finger from the mouse/trackpad.

My finger heretofore levitated as the cursor hit the bottom and a few milliseconds one way or the other produced the inconsistency that I experiended.

(The soul of the gremlin resides between the points in time.)

    So now it's just fine.

For consistency to be dependable it must be reliable.

Thanks, but does not work consistently. That is: sometimes does, sometimes doesn't.

Same problem here. Dock is not showing on other screen, unless I keep going down with the cursor and keep clicking, then eventually it turns up. Certainly not normal behavior! I hope Apple fixes this issue soon. One of the coolest features of Mavericks, but it doesn't work properly :-(

Well that didn't solve it for me

It was inconsistent for me for a long time but now it's not.

It's a matter of milliseconds. As I slide my finger down the track pad I would lift it just as the cursor hit the bottom of the screen.  Now, with some kinesthetic attention and diligence, I keep my finger on the track pad and imagine that I'm landing about an inch below the screen and then it works consistently.  I imagine that with a mouse you need to keep the button pressed or make sure you don't slow or reverse direction.

Now, why all the dock just can't be there on each screen is a consumation devoutly to be wished.

Next rev we'll probably need a "May I" and an "Umbrella Step"

So, schmooz your finger down 1 inch below the screen.

No kidding it works for me every time now.

Here is what I did to help solve this problem for me and it now works even if the secondary display is not "active" meaning I havnt clicked on that screen.

Under display settings I arranged the displays such that the bottom of both screens are aligned as shown in the screenshot below. Hope it helps/works for you.

Yes, it seems to be touchy..."all the way down, then just a bit further" or the "double bump" work reliably for me, though they are annoying and I wish it'd behave like it used to.  It also effects the application switcher - it'll only pop up on the screen the dock is active on...

That works!  Even on my MacBook Pro 2010 model.

I had my displays originally setup stacked on top of one another...this definately doesn't function.

I had the same issue happening. I tried many different approaches and then finally found one thing that seems consistently to work. I still think there is a bug but at least I can now make it work consistently. What info is I move my mouse pointer to the bottom of the display then I lift my finger and do a full swipe down from the top of the track pad to the bottom. This second mouse movement seems to work for me. I still hope that apple fixes it though because it really should be no different then displaying the dock when hidden on a single monitor setup.

In my case, I have a vertical arrangement, where the macbook monitor is bellow the other monitor, just in the middle.

I have discovered that to make the dock appear in the external monitor, I need to move the cursor all the way down to the botton of the screen in the areas where there are not connection between both displays.

Is a poor workaround, but a least I can change the dock and the app switcher

btw, I try with the dock in the sides, with no avail.

You can disable the second menu bar and the moving dock in Mavericks by selecting System Preferences > Mission Control > Un-tick “Displays have separate Spaces”. Log out your account and you will have just a single menu bar & dock.
