I bought my Macbook Pro in 2010. I most recently updated to the Mavericks software two days ago.

I was on the Internet (using Safari) and all of a sudden, my entire screen froze. I turned it off, waited a while, and then turned it back on.

I tried it again four times and the start up screen still shows with the spinning dial for a very long time--longer than five minutes.

Has anyone else had this problem?

I'm desperate because I have two papers to write and my Apple Care ended this past July and I have never had a problem. I'm going crazy.

Please help!

Thanks

I thought I was the only one! I updated to Mavericks the day it was released and when I reboot and get to the start up screen it takes forever with the spinning dial before I get to the main screen. I did verify and repair disck permissions through disk utility which seemed to help a little bit and I checked to see my memory usage and It looks like that may be the issue. With only 4g of memory it will take it longer to reboot.. I'm hoping there is an update for the older Macbooks.
