I have a MacBook at home and a MacPro at work.  My iPad is usually synced with my MacBook.  Is there any reason I can't sync with the MacPro at work too? If I was to pick one, I'd rather sync my iPad at work so that I can load my portfolios of photographs (I'm a pro photographer), but I've been syncing with my home computer, the MacBook Pro since I got the iPad a year or so ago.

You can't. the iPad is meant to sync to only one iTunes library at a time.

So what would happen if I started syncing with the MacPro?

Sync it at home and when you try to sync it at work it'll want to erase  the iPad. it'll give you some warning about only being able to sync with one library at a time and offer to erase your iPad to sync with the new library.

If there are documents or the such that you want to sync between the two computers there may be apps for that. Or you can use something like dropbox to transfer files.

Would stuff like Numbers spreadsheets, Pages documents, other files from other apps, and the apps themselves be lost or just the music/photos that are actually synced through itunes?  I understand I can use something like Dropbox... but the spreadsheets in Numbers for example are synced through iCloud - are they not?  is there a difference between the sync with iCloud and iTunes?  sorry... just having trouble getting my head wrapped around all this syncing!

iCloud may be the exception, but I'm afraid I don't have much experience with it. As I understand it using the same iCloud on work Mac, home Mac and iPad should enable the syncage of documents, etc. And I think it's different from iTunes.

There is a dedicated iCloud part of the forum

maybe asking there can get you more precise answers.
