Q: I have been trying to download Maverick on to my 2012 MacAir. It gets to 996MB each time then comes up with error in download, go to purchases and try again. I've tried loads of times but the same thing happens. Any ideas?

I have been trying to download Maverick on to my 2012 MacAir. It gets to 996MB and stops. A message says there has been an error in the download and to go to purchases and try again. It's the same every time I try.

Any ideas?

    Do you have enough disk space available on your Air? The download is 5.29GB and you'll need more space than that to handle the process of upgrading. Be sure all your programs are closed, other than the App store as well.

    In general, you should always have 15% of your total disk space unused.

    Hello Pauli

     

    I have the very same problem.  I get to 996Mb on my 2012 15inch retnia lap-top and it just hangs. dose not show time left to download.  I have stop it re-booted, still the same, over several hours now.

     

    It seems unlikely that we both have the same indicaiton that it stop at same 996MB unless there is problem

    You're not alone. I've been trying everything for the last 4 days.

    Downloading OS Maverick onto my 15" MacBook Pro and also a friends "17 MacBook Pro and each time get stuck at exactly the same spot (996MB). Plus it's corrupted Safari in the process. Aurora by Firefox still allows me to brows the web.

    My relatives in Finland encountered problems downloading (but not the same 996MB point) and with Safari failing, but eventually got Maverick to install and Safari was fixed.

    I'm having the same issue. I'm on a fairly new iMac (from early 2013) and it keeps hanging at 995.6/996 MB every freakin' time. What's the deal Apple?

    Hi Again

     

    Well that proves that there is some kind of software conflict, I will try and contact apple support and see what they say !!  Bet loads of users with the 2012 release Macs are having the same problem !!

     

    It might take a while but it we all send them the info they may be ablt to offer a Fix

     

    Lets see what happens

    Hey Bobby, think you are right, I don't think the MacAir can handle the 5.29GB download and as you can't increase it on the MacAir looks like we will not be able to download. Do you reckon that's the same for you Graham?

    Download to 996 MB and stops. Launchpad displays "Downloading 995.4 MB of 5.29 GB".

     

    I've been on Chat to Apple Support for 2 hours. Spoke with a Senior supervisor. Went through all the checks. And still no success. They think it may be a download limit imposed by my ISP. I am doubtfull this is the case as I have downloaded larger files previously. But I will humour them and take my MacBook Pro into an Apple store and retry to download OS Maverick on their ISP.

     

    I've been told "If the problem does persist at the store, you’ll need to call us so we can verify your identity for your Apple ID so we can place the account in troubleshooting mode and have our engineers fix the issue".

    That seems like a horrible solution. I wonder if that means they would expect me to pack up my iMac and bring that into a store, too? That's dumb - but I guess a "solution" on their end.

    Don't pack up your iMac just yet.

    I'll get down with my MacBook Pro hopefully tomorrow.

    I don't expect it to work in Store. But we'll try. It's their way of ruling out if it's an ISP issue.

    But I'll post my results and progress here as I know there are many with the same issue.

    Good luck. Oh I am totally opposed to bringing in my iMac. My plan B for tomorrow is to download the installer at work and try to create a bootable USB installer instead. Apple. It just works...except for when it doesn't. Grr lol

    Hi Guys:-

     

    If this SAME problems is effecting us all then suspect its not IPS problem as we all get problem at 995.6MB.

     

    I would think that there is some kind of software conflict.  If we all having this problem just think of how many users have the same but are not on this discussion board, bet you its 100s and 100s.

     

    Not possible for me to visit store now but will monitor your responce's. 

     

    Good luck guys, lets make um give us a fix:- I will call them tomorrow and see what they say:-  should point support to this Discussion page and they can answer us !

    For some reason I had no problem downloading it. I downloaded Mavericks about an hour after the event, and it even downloaded the files pretty fast (about 1.5Mb per second, which is actually the limit for me). Maybe it's a problem in a specific region of the world? I live in Italy, so I wouldn't know about other places. Also, you've probably all done it, but did you try to Reboot the system (I know its cliche, but still...). Maybe Apple is propagating the install to the servers in a region-specific manner? I do agree with GoldenAuras, no need to run to the closest Apple store. It might even solve itself by tomorrow.

    HI Guus.

     

    First thing this morning I used my office wifi and its has started downloading OK so may be I was mistaken and there as some kind of limit from my home IPS service provider.

     

    I will monitor how the down load progress and if it is  successful but at the moment its gone to 4.6 GB OK
