My 2nd generation Apple TV does not recognize my iTunes library on my home PC (Windows 7).  Home sharing is selected in iTunes and my computer is properly set up in Apple TV.  Both iTunes and Apple TV have the most current software update.  I have restarted, restored, and reset the Apple TV but nothing has worked.  Any ideas?

Then something in the network is likely blocking the connection.

    Here are some tips

I get this problem a lot, particularly after a software update.  Normally doing a restart will fix things, but if not then unplusg the ATV from the power, wait a couple of minutes and plug back in again.  Also make sure that you start iTunes and let it run for a few minutes before starting the ATV so that the network has time to pick up homesharing.

Note that if you are not getting anything at all (so no access to movies etc via the shop on the ATV) then it is likely a network issue as per vazandrew's suggestion, however if it is just your home library which cannot be accessed then restart or power cycle normally works for me.

Use istumbler.net to check for possible interference. Are you using any security software?

May want to check into that as it can sometimes cause issues with the connection, along with verifying interference.

Can't really comment about MS SE - I prefer to use something a bit more robust when it comes to security than a generic solution.  Could be that it is causing issues by firewalling your PC off from the ATV.  Try disabling or even uninstalling it and see if that helps.

Also check your router settings to make sure they follow Apple's suggestions:

When I was living in an apartment building I had a lot of trouble with interference from neighbours and the ATV/iPad kept getting knocked off the network.  All cleared up when I changed the settings on 2.4GHz channel width to 20MHz.  If you have several people near you with routers and wireless home phones this could be giving you trouble.

If not any of these I'm out of ideas.  Best of luck.

I've recently upgraded from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion and since that my Apple TV just won't see my itunes library, although if I play something from my Macbook Pro it will play through the apple TV, I just can't seem to browse through my library.  This is the whole point of me buying Apple TV so I can go to bed and browse through movies, music etc without having my laptop beside me.

I've tried every bit of advice on the net and nothing has fixed the issue.  As a long time apple user, this is getting me seriously peed off and making me wish I'd never bought what is essentially now an expensive paper weight!

About time apple pulled their socks up and started fixing these issues, issues that have been ongoing for years now!

We are only users here, and without knowing what you've tried it is hard to help or see if further troubleshooting is needed.

You will not see a response from Apple and there is little chance they will see this so if you really have tried everything and want to give feedback you can use the link.
