Q: Mavericks Hardware/Software compatibility Info

Updates as and when I can...

Old news first... (Well its actually new news but it happens so often whenever there are OS X updates it feels like old news!)

The "usual suspects" are having issues with the new OS X upgrade to 10.9

Mackie and Avid/M-Audio... are both recommending users NOT to upgrade to 10.9/Mavericks as their drivers are "having some issues at this time." Users are reporting various degrees of success/issues so upgrade at your own risk...

Avid have also announced "Avid currently states that Media Composer 7, Pro Tools 11, and Sibelius 7 are NOT supported with Mavericks. They will announce support for the new OS with future releases."

Novation, while claiming compatibility... appear to be ingoring the cries for help from some of their users.... Hopefully this will be rectified soon...........

...and now, back to the real new news.....

Tascam issues abound... Their press release reads as follows;

"TASCAM has announced that their USB drivers have issues with the release of Mavericks. This will affect all current US- series interfaces. TASCAM is hard at work on updating their drivers and will have them ready as soon as possible."

Steinberg's CoreAudio2ASIO driver is having major issues with 10.9 and Steinberg are recommending NOT to upgrade to Mavericks if you use any of their products at this time...

Ableton Live Users need to update to the latest beta versions of 8.4.2 and 9.1 for the best compatibility with 10.9 (Though a few users are reporting issues even with the latest beta..)

Apogee Symphony I/O owners are being told NOT to update to Mavericks as there are current "some significant issues' with their drivers.. New drivers may be released in November... Other Apogee products have updated drivers available from their website

Motu are reporting no problems but are continuing to 'deep test' their products... (No issues found here btw..)

Focusrite say their products are 10.9 compatible.. with the exception of the the Saffire 6 USB. They are hoping to release updated drivers for that model later in the year...

Presonus products should be working fine with latest drivers.... No reports of any issues.

    RME haven't released any info either way that i can find... However, this is info from Users that i have gleaned from around the net... (All were using the latest version of the appropriate drivers for their hardware)

    RME HDSPe-AIO - 2 Users report working find with 10.9

    RME Babyface - 1 User reports issues with crackling.. 3 Users says no problems..

    RME UFX - 2 Users report no problems

    Addditional Updates

    Max 6 users are advised strongly, NOT to update to Mavericks at this stage as switching Audio on can often cause a crash.... (Cycling '74 forum)

    Propellerhead guardly report;

    "Our initial testing of the new Mac OS X Mavericks has not revealed any problems with Reason 7.0.1, ReCycle 2.2 or the Balance audio interface. We are doing more in-depth testing as we speak and will release a more formal compatibility statement as soon as we are done".

    Update from Ableton;

    Live 8 and Live 9 stable currently are NOT recommended for Mavericks. If you’re on the beta list, though, beta updates (8.4.2 and 9.1) are available now. Those two betas are very stable, so oddly, beta Ableton users may feel free to jump for the new OS. Everyone else should wait.

    For anyone wondering if they should or should not update to 10.9.... because they are unsure if their hardware/drivers etc will be fully compatible..

    As my Grandfather would say..... "When in doubt.. Do Nowt!" (Do nothing....)

    Be patient and carry on using your current OS X/LP configuration until a clear picture becomes widely available...

    Cheers..

    A few clients have contacted me reporting that they occasionally get crackling Audio in the standalone version of Kontakt but which seems to be cured by turning off Maverick's Power Nap feature for that app....

    I have heard the same fix uttered by some other users with intermittant noise issues within LPX itself so... it might be worth a try turning it off for LPX or any standalone Audio apps...if you get any form of crackling audio that is intermittant.

    Note: I cannot test this myself as i don't have this issue...

    If you want to prevent an app from using App Nap, you can hit ⌘I on an .app file in your /Applications folder and then check “Prevent App Nap” under general in the Get Info panel.

    Hey octopi,

    Thanks.. and glad to hear it!

    I'm getting the same lack of issues here after a couple of days of hard testing  with all revisions of the the Motu Ultralite (Via FW) too.. using the current drivers.

    Hmmm, Focusrite does indeed say that but I have a Forte and it worked fine with Logic X and 10.8 but on Mavericks I get this latency and then this kind of rhythmic clicking on both inputs, definitely unuasble and downright depressing. Novation 61SL MK2 seems fine.

    Mr. W,

    Yes.. Im hearing a few people uttering somilar concerns with their Focurite drivers and Mavericks.. but others state everything is fine.. so I don't know for sure myself.. as i don't own or have access to any Focusrite hardware.

    The newer v1.7b1 USB2 Mac drivers included in the latest v1.1 update  along with firmware 502 (You have installed both of those yes?)  are supposed to be compatible and fully tested with ML at least... but they are still in beta.. so who knows...

    In regards to the Novation.. Are you using Automap and if so, which version?

    Yes to all except not sure about firmware version (can't find this info). Automap 4.7 which is not working 100 percent I just meant the keyboard itself is working fine. Automap has been a little flaky since X came out (especially if you use a producer drum kit, it doesn't seem to like those at all) ,works decent though otherwise.

    Firmware 502 comes as part of the v1.1 package.. so maybe you need to reinstall that?

    Try that once but I did not do a claen install because I couln't find the old drivers to trash them first.

    I have an issue with Mavericks and MOTU.  I have a MOTU PCIe424 card in a

    2009 Mac Pro Dual Xeon CPUs.  I have 2 24IO breakout boxes, and a 2408mk3

    attached.  If I boot with the interfaces turned on, the machine crashes, reboots,

    crashes, reboots,...

    If I boot with the interfaces all turned off, I can boot into the desktop on Mavericks.

    If I then turn on the MOTU gear, it crashes.  I have the latest drivers that MOTU

    claims are ok.  I have filed a bug report with MOTU, but haven't heard back.

    I have heard back from MOTU.  They say that they have a few people experiencing

    what is happening to me, and they are trying to track it down.  I did supply them with

    a new clue.  If I boot to Mavericks, and then turn on interfaces 1 at a time, and a maximum

    of only 2 on at the same time I can stay booted.  If I turn on a third, the machine

    reboots.  Order of what I turn on does not seem significant.
