Same issue here Richard and a Safe Mode boot helped.
Startup your Mac in Safe Mode
A Safe Mode boot takes much longer than a normal boot so be patient.
Once you are in Safe Mode, click Restart from the Apple () menu.Hang X with Mavericks!

Thank you! That did the trick. For some reason, it did not occurr to me that there was a change in the system preferences when installing Mavericks. (There's a lesson there, too.)

Thank you for the recommendation. I tried it a few times, but it did not change the gestures. Starting in Safe Mode is not a bad idea anytime something odd is going on though.
I like your "Hang X with Mavericks!".
