Q: MacBook Pro Retina display burn-in?

I first noticed this after my MBP [Retina] had gone to sleep, but: when returning to the login screen (since I have it set to require a password whenever the computer is idle long enough) I noticed what appeared to a very faint ghosting primarily noticeable on darker backgrounds.

After messing around with it a bit, there seems to be a fairly consistent in-display ghosting that occurs without much time at all; I was able to leave my screen on (a little above half-brightness) for about 10-15 minutes and the ghosted "burn" would be of the screen I left it on (which I deliberately reconfigured so that everything would be a new position).

Has anyone else experienced this? Is this a normal thing that I just have to get used to? It's not really noticeable at all in standard use.

Is this a 13" or 15" you picked up??

Also, I've seen a SLEW of people complaining about trackpad/keyboard "freezing" issues with the new 13" rMBP as well.

Ugh! I just "want" to pull the trigger but just can't feel comfortable about it for some reason. I want a 15" maxed out machine but for 3k+ I want it perfect! Again, just one of the reasons I am considering buying the PRO and then an AIR for portability as needed.

And what's the verdict on the machine so far?

This could be Mavericks related. I'm getting lots of trackpad freezing and scrolling strangeness with Mavericks on my mid-2012 15" Retina MacBook Pro.

    Hello

I have the retina 13 inch mbp late 2013. I just did the image retention with the grid and thank god no ghost in here. I can see a little bit the grid when I move quickly my head but this is not as bad as I've seen on the internet.

My display model is 0000A020 according to colorsync.

Then if it's true that the macbook 13" has only a LG display, they have corrected the issue or Samsung is also providing screens.

    Cheers

How did you do to have the information "LSN…" with the new macbook pro haswell? What's the terminal command?

I want to know if i'm LG or Samsung display.

    Thanks!

At this point, it is looking like there are at least two manufacturers of LCDs for the late-2013 13" model.  We have seen A018 and A020 as possible LCD models in this machine.  We still don't know which is which, though.  And without people who own the late-2012 or early-2013 models of 13" posting their ColorSync model data, we know even less about their stories.

Regardless of anything you've read to this point. From what I've read here, nothing is known yet, other than a few people have purchased and are happy. That doesn't mean anything as there's been plenty of people that have had no IR show up until months later. Passing the test out of the box doesn't prove anything.

Now I admit, if there's still no IR reports by next summer with the new mbpr's then perhaps Apple may have straightened it out quietly as someone else suggested they've done before.

For me though, I'm not convinced anything has changed regardless of the optomiistic posts by people simply based on their screen lottery good fortune, and I'm waiting patiently.

Unfortunately, I finally found someone to post proof that it's still going on.  I asked them to prove it is a late 13" and that it has IR.  It's really a bummer, it makes me not want to buy it anymore.

It seems displays has not changed on late 2013 retina macbook pro's, which means defected display lottery continues.

For me, I was planning on buying late 2013 retina macbook pro but now I would not want to buy any of retina macbook pro cause I was refunded a 2012 rMBP with defected LG display last time.

I say if you want one buy one, you may get a Samsung you may get a LG. How do you know that all LG displays are defective, after the problems they has last year they could be fixed, who knows LG could be better that Samsung now.

Well Dimme, if current repairs are anything to go by, LGs are still proving faulty. About 3-4 weeks ago had a 1st Gen LG replaced by the Apple genius bar with a second gen LG. No IR but nice pink to green/yellow gradient.Going in again for another repair

The LG screen on my 2012 15" MBPr had really bad IR so I am well-aware of what to look for. My new MBPr 15" also has an LG (LP154WT1-SJE1) and so far it hasn't exhibited any signs of IR yet. Just to add to the data points...

If you are un the market for a 15" I would say go buy one. If you get a screen from LG which will most likely exhibit IR just go to the Genius Bar and get the screen replace by à

a Samsung one. The real problem in my opinion is for the 13" buyers because as far as we know every screen are from LG and are touch by IR (sometimes not out of the box but it starts months later) and all the Genius Bar will do is replace your screen with another defective one (if they accept to change it) so the 13" (even thought aside of the IR is a great computer) is a no buy for me.
